Ep. 24 I planted a 60 year old OLIVE TREE in my garden

Planting an olive tree from Spain in Vienna (USDA Zone 8a to 7b) is very risky and needs a good concept for bringing it safely trough the winter. Next year we will know if we were successfull or created expensive firewood.

I think it was a brave one. During winter just cover the area where the roots are with the special insulation material they sell in the plant store. I had three in Switzerland and they did great despite the snow.

Pretty neat to be able to transplant an olive tree to your yard that is that large! How is it doing?

Good luck. I have two olive trees that I have had over 10 years that I always bring in and out depending on the weather in New York. This spring I am going to plant one of them and protect them like my palm trees.

That tree is beautiful in that spot . I have never seen a olive tree but i do like to eat olives. There might be some in USA , but i dont know were. The trunk is beautiful, i love the different bark on trees and have done many oil painting of trees when i was younger. Thanks so much for this wonderful video

Thank you Sara! There are definetly Olive trees in the US. Especially in California since the climate there is quite similar to Spain/Italy/Greece/The Balkan, Turkey etc. where these trees are mostly found. Lets hope its still alive next year :) Take care Sara!

Hallo, sehr schöner Olivenbaum. Ein Heizkabel ist keine gute Idee. Meine Olivenbäume überwintern in Überwinterungszelt + Heizlüfter mit Thermostat. Das funktioniert echt gut :) Alles gute und viel Erfolg !!!

What varietal Spanish olive tree did you acquire? Can you name the North Italy varietals that are more cold hardy. Thanks for the video. That's a very nice acquisition. 😊

No unfortunately it didn't survive. I wasn't there to water it regularily
