This week we finish our journey on the Trent-Severn Waterway and enter the Georgian Bay! We are enjoying Canada so much, and we are still eating great food and loving the time with our Looper friends! Check out our trip on the Big Chute Marine Railway! Thanks for following along, and we appreciate all of your comments and support! :-)

I love the Georgian Bay Area. I’m on my way back up there to spend a more time there than the first time I did the loop. My French ancestors traveled the Georgian Bay in canoes as fur traders and explorers. When I did my first loop, the people running the chute were leery of putting my Fleming through. I’m almost 120,000 lbs and 62 ft LOA. So they used 6 straps and went real slow. But we made it.

Oh Wow, that is so neat about your ancestors, and also about your 62 foot boat! I can't even imagine how big that is but Flemings are absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for watching! :-)

It’s a Fleming 58. But counting the anchor pulpit and the swim platform it’s 62 feet length overall.

I have to ask. Do neither of you two fish? With all the water that has been beneath you, I'm sure there would be tasty seafood just waiting on you to catch it. Your trip is keeping me entertained, and thanks for that.

Hey there! YES we do fish, and actually Chris fished this week! Problem is, he only brought his SALT water tackle box, he meant to bring the FRESH water but forgot it, so now he's throwing shrimp lures into the Georgian Bay with no takers! :-) Thanks so much for watching! :-)

The "big" evergreen tree is in fact a cell phone tower. There are several in cottage country. Enjoyed your video of our home cruising waters.

One of the reasons that I hope to do the Loop is in recognition of your travels as well MY Checkmate & Drift Away ! Like my Daddy often said “ Live large with a good spouse & you’ll live a Good life ! “ looking forward to the next update !

While going through Canada did anyone ask for your passport? Loved those houses along the river, the one with the Caboose was nice. Did you have to pay for any of the locks in Canada?. Thank you great show. This one was top 1.
@coolbeansloop2024
@coolbeansloop2024 4 ай бұрын
Hey there! We only had to give our passport when we "checked into" Canada via phone in Kingston. Nobody else has asked. We DID have to pay for the locks, but we purchased an annual pass a few months ago (when they were on sale!) so they just wrote down our number at each lock and we went on our way! I'm not sure how much the locks are if you pay per lock, but we did all but one of them so I think we got a good deal! :-) Thanks so much for watching! :-)

Hey y’all! We continue to watch your videos each week and love following along. Excited to see the Georgian Bay. It seems like y’all have gained a lot of knowledge and experience since we met you in St. Augustine. What is the most helpful thing you’ve learned since you were in the east coast of Florida? - Russell and Michele (still planning and dreaming about our loop)
@coolbeansloop2024
@coolbeansloop2024 4 ай бұрын
HEY MICHELLE!!!!!!! Good to hear from you and glad you are following along still! :-) We HAVE gained SO MUCH over the last few months, and I think we could rattle off many things, but Chris and I have decided that the most important and helpful thing we have learned is this: pay attention to tides and currents! It really is important to plan your days (especially on the east coast) around the tides and currents, it will make your travels so much better. You don't want to be in shallow areas at low tide. You don't want to go against the current sometimes, for docking reasons as well as fuel economy. We learned all of this the "hard way" but luckily we are fast learners! Thank you for this insightful question, and we sure do hope you and Russell get to do your loop! I can tell you that it is WORTH IT. For sure, 100%. Thanks for watching! and as always, let us know if you have any other questions! We are happy to share our Loop Knowledge! Hey are you guys planning to go to the fall rendezvous in Alabama in October? Let us know! We will be there! We are going to put our boat on the Looper Crawl as we will be selling it after we cross our wake! :-)

@@coolbeansloop2024 Hey Lisa and Chris! Thank you for that answer… we can’t wait to buy our boat and start training. We have so much to learn. Esp about tides, currents, and weather. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to attend the Fall rendezvous this year. We would love to see y’all again and attend the Looper Crawl. But, we have a family trip planned this October. We plan to attend the rendezvous in the next couple years for sure! Maybe you and Chris will be ready for your second loop when we start ours 😜. We watch your video every Wednesday evening. Wishing you many blessings and calm water as you finish your loop!

You’ve come up with such a great format for your videos - easy to watch, easy to follow, and I find myself really looking forward to learning something new with the tip of the week! It’s also impressive that you are able to post these vids fairly close to real time - editing is a lot of work, but maybe it helps that you’ve created something of a template for your episodes, so you’re not reinventing the wheel with each post.

Hey Kari! Awww thank you so much for your kind comments on our video structure! YES you are 100% correct, I have a template of sorts that I just reuse, and change for the week! Yes we are fairly real time, and it's not always easy but we have been able to make it work. Starlink helps so much! :-) I am not at the mercy of hotspots or marina Wi-Fi anymore! And I am so glad I will have this to re-live our loop in the years to come! Thanks so much for watching! :-)

Talk a little about bug control. I know, being from Texas we have the "miller bugs" and mosquitos that could be small humming bird size. What are you seeing in Canada and how are you combating it? Is Chris getting out early and sweeping the bugs before cruising?
@coolbeansloop2024
@coolbeansloop2024 4 ай бұрын
Hello! bug control... what's that? They come aboard uninvited and stay as long as they can! We have had everything from gnats, no see ums, flies, but the WORST have been the spiders and horseflies! In Canada, it's mainly been spiders and flies. We keep a fly swatter at hand at all times. And we both sweep the boat every few days! Not sure how much it helps, they seem to hide under the rub rail and come out at night! Thanks for watching! :-)
