As a malayalee living in Madras, i can tell you that the narrative of south vs north in almost all aspects, be it in culture, education, intellect etc exists largely and is only increasing by the day! Most of us south indians believe we are superior to the north indians in almost all aspects...we even look down upon them...ive seen this over the years travelling in both tamil nadu and kerala! This is dangerous and not in good taste at all! Also, having traveled a fair bit to the north i dont see the south as leaps and bounds above the north in all metrics! Yes, we're better when it comes to some metrics but there are a lot of areas where the north does a fairly better job.

Which are the metrics where North fares better other than in maybe places like transportation infrastructure etc which is precisely because if the unfair amount of money allocated to North India

@BertRussie do you see what you did there yourself? You quite literally confirmed what I was saying. My intention was not to compare or make this a competition between the north and the south. Why would I, as a malayalee and as someone whose grown up both in Madras and Kerala do that!? I was merely referring to the unhealthy phenomenon of us south indians waiting to jump at every opportunity to make everything a south vs north debate(that u very clearly displayed).and of course we think we're better in almost every aspect!

What needs to be understood here is that UP has the highest number of MPs and is also the biggest recipient of central government funds. Now this has been going on since independence when richer states like Bengal and Maharashtra were indirectly taxed higher so that their tax money can go to UP. Indians have been looking at this "wealth redistribution" by the Central government for 70 years now and so far, the results are very abysmal. UP is just as poor as prior to independence and there is no real pressure from the populace to grow their own economy because the "free money" is coming from the Central government. UP would get around 93-96 MPs from the current 80 MPs in the Lok Sabha if the delimitation were to happen. It would be a classic case of "doubling down" on a failed policy as it would only mean more wealth redistribution and more free money to UP exacerbating their corruption and stifling the need for serious market-oriented reforms in UP to stimulate industrial growth. Ultimately, my conclusion is based on the assumption that UP is poor _because_ of wealth redistribution.

@@Kingzombiemyanmar you are correct, I was talking about the time when the constitution was being framed. In any case, I was only 1 hour into the podcast when I typed my original comment, and the guest does address this issue that I highlighted in the last 1.5 hours of the podcast. I won't delete my comment, but the guest did foresee this issue and did point towards a possible remedy.

I think Shruthi is part of a larger lobby. She recently spoke to NPR about demonetization and the deaths taken place . I was shocked that NPR allowed her to convey this without much verification. She has consistently been left leaning . Left should have a voice for sure -the point is being left doesn’t mean there is no bias . Just that bias is different . Ultimately I have realized not to value such people either left or right - follow your dreams , follow your thought . Don’t call anyone intellect since all they are doing is building their brand while talking crap

Hate to break this to you, but she's actually libertarian, that's apparent if you actually read her works and look at the university where she teaches, not that it makes me agree with her anymore, but this trend of labelling of anyone with a different view as being left is just plain lazy.
