Looks pretty good. I like having the MVUM at my fingertips instead of having to order the maps from the National Forest Service. The layering looks pretty cool as well. Thanks, Ram 👍🏼👍🏾

@@jimrobinson3408 someday we probably will. The purpose of this episode was to bridge the idea of using Gaia for that.

Hey marc, we are just now planning our trip west so this is perfect timing, as we want to get out and boondock more this year. Im going to get this going today, Come on GAIA, time to sponsor grand adventure. Haha. I usually use google maps, and garming RV gps together for travel days, and have tried lots of others, looking forward to experimenting with Gaia. Larry

You're heading west while we're heading east. 🙄Safe travels and good luck with the planning, Larry. This should turn out to be very useful tool for that planning. Perhaps we'll cross paths in the other direction this fall.

I've used this app for many years for backcountry 4x4 runs. This app is wonderful, the only app I actually pay for. The yearly cost, which isn't cheap, is so worth the cost!
@GrandAdventure5 ай бұрын
We completely agree, Clifford. When you realize that you're not only paying for the app development, but also their fees to license the maps, we feel that it's worth the investment.
@EugeneTheJeep5 ай бұрын
@@GrandAdventure Exactly, you're paying for all the map layers, many of which change constantly. The Nat Geo maps sold me, absolutely worth the cost!

This looks great Marc - we tried this out a few years ago, and while it looked good then we had mapping covered. But some of the new features you showed are pretty compelling - we will give this another shot. We look forward to your upcoming trip - Bob and Dang

Thanks you two! We've been really impressed over the past year, and with your truck's head unit using Android Auto or Apple CarPlay it's especially compelling. The ability to explore an area with your position on Nat Geo Trails Illustrated maps displayed on your infotainment screen is positively wonderful. It also takes all of the steps presented in our Episode 181 boondocking site tutorial kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5OsmIJ3oMtphNE and puts them in a single mapping package.

Definitely has my interest when I leave and go FT. Not really needed on the east coast 😂. Out west, definitely. I like how it can track your location and leave waypoints. Especially down forest roads with no street signs 😂
@GrandAdventure5 ай бұрын
There are definitely some places back East where the Nat Geo Trails Illustrated map layer would be very informative -- northern New England, the Adirondacks, The Smoky Mountains, Delmarva Peninsula, ... www.natgeomaps.com/trail-maps/trails-illustrated-maps

Curious why you don’t think Gaia navigation is not needed on the East coast. I live in the White Mountains and I thought while looking at Marc’s video, it would work great.

I've had zero issues because of the purchase, Gary. The only change I've detected is that they've integrated the login with other Outside Online products. Otherwise, it's business as usual as far as I can tell.

Mark - Can this software help me map out routes to avoid high mountain passes that I don't want to tow over?

Not directly/automatically. But just like any topographic maps, it'll allow you to see terrain and elevation to deduce which are the lowest routes.
