Open cell was recommended since we had sheathing all around the exterior of the home and house wrap. It was more cost effective which allowed us to get more of it. So maybe in that way it was a better R-Value.

Chemical release PVC pipes can release vinyl chloride, a known carcinogen and endocrine disruptor, into drinking water. While the levels may be below the EPA's legal limit, they can still be a health concern.

True. I spoke to my wife about that. I'm already screwed with that no matter what I did so we kept with it. Perhaps I'll explain more in my next plumbing video as it gets hooked up. Thanks for the comment though.
