And That's Why We Drink

Күн бұрын

It's episode 375 and we've got a choose your own adventure of reasons to drink this week. Today Em brings us the holy grail of haunted houses, the Merchant's House in Manhattan. Then Christine takes us to Utah and into the world of mommy vloggers to kick off her two-parter on Ruby Franke/8 Passengers. Tune in next week and we'll hopefully have all our teeth and no creepy garden statues... and that's why we drink!
Can you believe we wrote a second book!? AND that you can already pre-order it?? Go to bit.ly/HRANextStop to pre-order your copy today!

Hi Christine! The small statue is probably Joseph (the father of Jesus). I've read that some people bury one in their yard. It's supposed to help them sell the house.

My family did that when I was a child. Right next to my childhood hampster who died. I apologize to whomever may have found that and thought we made a sacrifice

I would also like to add that both the man and his wife were home when that poor boy showed up on their doorstep, and while he called 911, his wife brought the boy food and a drink and had him eat while kneeling in front of him just nurturing the hell out of him. That couple was sent from the universe.

When Christine was talking about the man and how he responded to the boy asking for help, I kept saying out loud, "give him some food, please give him food and water!" over and over. Thank you for sharing this, it makes me feel a little better. The wife, what a beautiful soul!! It's exactly how I'd respond if a child showed up on my doorstep.

Do you like the milk or dark chocolate oranges? For me, the milk chocolate O's are out of this world! Starbucks used to have a Valencia orange mocha that I ordered every time I went - I'd get a venti iced. They discontinued it, unfortunately, but it reminded me of a milk choc orange. I live way out in the sticks now, the nearest Starbucks is hours away (plus I can't stand the dude who founded Starbucks and their union busting b.s.) so I haven't been to one in years. In any case, I hope you're able to satisfy your choc orange craving, stat!! P.S. You know what else is sublime? Well-made chocolate malt balls. Not whoppers, they're too small and the chocolate is waxy and subpar. I buy a certain kind, made and sold in smaller batches and they melt in your mouth. So damn good!! One last thing, I just noticed your handle. Is your first name Jerri or Jeresh? Just curious, mine is the former.

@@crowdedcrow3098 I prefer the milk chocolate ones, but I’m okay with dark chocolate also. I’m currently looking into the closest place to get a chocolate orange. I don’t want to risk getting one off of Amazon and have it melt since the weather will be a bit warm near me this week. There’s a bit of a back story to my handle. Back in the days when we had to go to Blockbuster to get a disc to load AOL, I did that and had to come up with a name for email. I was reading a book called The History of Hell and Ereshkigal was the Sumerian goddess of the underworld. Well, someone already had that name so AOL suggested I put a J in front of it since my first name is Jessi. And I’ve been Jereshkigal online ever since. I use that name for everything. Over on Beach Too Sandy, Christine and Xandy just refer to me as Jer since that’s what Xandy was calling me over in his Hogpen on Twitch.

Also, Christine, I just want to point out that if you want to cover some true crime that doesn’t directly involve murder that is also cool! I thought the one were the brothers were selling pain pills was really interesting. Or maybe you could cover some thing that’s part murder part paranormal. Sometimes it makes me sad that you get all the stories that are less fun and more sad. But you guys should do whatever you want. I love your podcast so much. ❤❤❤

Good point. True crime can involve so many issues other than murder. People commit all sorts of crimes, some get caught and are held accountable and some are not. Branching out could make it more interesting for Christine, I'm sure covering terrible murders might get old, after years of podcasting.

I grew up with an abusive narcissistic mother, I can't watch family channels, I wouldn't say they trigger me, but it makes my skin crawl and stomach churn, I can only handle the commentary videos that just show clips. The first time I watched the Duggars, when they had their first show in TLC, I saw parallels between Michelle and my mother, and I was in middle school.

I imagine watcing channels that feature similar types of abuse that you suffered would be uncomfortable, even painful. I can see why you avoid that sort of content, why put yourself back in that world and bring up so many difficult feelings. I'm sorry you went through that, you deserved much better and I hope you've found a partner and/or group of people who give you the love and support you should've had all along!🫂💗💞

@@crowdedcrow3098 My husband is incredible, we knew each other for just a couple of months when he let me move in with him when I was kicked out of the house. We've been together for almost 15 years and he knows what I've been through. With time and distance things I've started healing. I won't be able to heal my relationship with her, she died of COVID, but I can with my younger sister. I'm not comfortable with therapy, she convinced the psychiatrists to put on bipolar medication, I'm not bipolar, just PTSD and anxiety, I was almost put on Lithium which could have done long term damage, but was on Wellbutrin instead, still not right for what I have. Now, it's just a lot of meditation, and puppy therapy, my dogs get lots of hugs.

I've offered my services as a psychic and I've worked with several psychics and we all agree with the theory that light, electricity and waves/signals make it harder for spirits to communicate. Like it takes more energy. That's why there's more activity in the dark and at night compared to during the day. Less electricity, light, and like phone/wifi signals. Might also explain the draining of the phone. Only some spirits are strong enough for the electronic spirit communication devices and why it's sometimes not clear if that makes sense?

Awww... what kind of bird? I had three budgies, I lost my last bird about three months ago. Well, I didn't lose her, she died. I miss them so much, I've been watching tons of bird videos, they're comforting and make me laugh. My birds weren't big chewers, I made them lots of crafty toys, hoping to encourage their chewing and foraging so they could enjoy themselves, but they never really took to them. Birds are such characters. Now I just have the flock of wild turkeys that run around my yard.

Mmm I didn’t realize how triggering Christine’s story would be; that case about the mommy vlogger sounds like a traditionally covert malignant narcissist. As someone who was raised around that type of person, it is extremely damaging as an adult attempting gauge everyone’s emotions and how you’re “supposed” to act. Anyway, I had to stop listening but Christine, you told it very well and I always appreciate how empathetic you and Em are to this horrid stories. Keep doing great work 💚
