Ep 39 HOW-TO Bowser H21A PRR Bowser Hopper, Build and Weathering

This episode's project is building and weathering a Bowser H21A coal hopper, in Pennsylvania Railroad livery. Primarily the weathering will be weathering chalk as I have done in other videos, although I will add Vallejo rust texture weathering effect for the wheels, journal boxes and truck springs. Kadee couplers replace the Bowser couplers, and newer Ajax brake wheel mechanism will be installed. Pretty straight build, and several layers of chalk dust, including on the coal load, and on to the next several hoppers.

Yes, I think I agree. That would be another step, adding pin wash up the ribbed sides of a rust color.

Yeah, and I need to setup a closer can angle. It isn't as good as the still shots.

Nice Job Michael! Did you shoot that Vallejo Textured Rust through an airbrush or did you use a sponge or brush for the trucks journals and bolsters? I have some of it and usually apply it with a make-up sponge. I never tried shooting it through an airbrush in fear it would clog my air-brush.

Started to air brush it but had the same reaction that you did. Hand brushed the springs and Journal boxes, and hand brushed the second coat on the wheels. I think the textured rust could use a bit more color for rust, but looks okay for grimy wheel color.
