2:23 there's a philosopher who wrote about this some centuries ago, I think his name is Søren Kiekegaard, and he said (in my simplified version), that the value of a compliment increases proportionally to the distance between the complimenter and the complimented object/person. He exemplified it by saying that you complimenting yourself is probably a 1, and your mom complimenting you could be a 2, but the farthest compliment is literally a stranger who doesn't owe you a dang thing AND is in a similar or higher status to which you aspire.

Being single by choice is definitely real. Some people truly enjoy the freedom of their personhood, ALONE. Their singleness is a feature about themselves not a flaw. They aren’t “waiting” for their person, they’re enjoying their lives by themselves because that’s what they WANT to do. And some people choose to be single just for a season of life and know they will look for a partner later in life. But that’s still a choice. Being single is not a prison sentence for everyone 😭 it’s their own decision. Some people love and enjoy themselves so much they genuinely don’t want a partner. We all have different wants and needs 🫶🏾 plus sooo much relationship love exists outside of just a romantic partner!

12:10 Thank you Mandii for being so real. Narcs sadly are very hard to move on from because the highs are so, so, so high. So of course you can miss the good parts, or even sometimes in a healthy relationship, miss the highs with the narc because healthy highs may not be so intense. So often those recovering feel shame for missing the unhealthy partner, so don't open up or get support. It's not about never missing them, it's about being healed enough to know those moments will pass, and where you are now is better on the whole

Single by choice isn’t real?…what? First of all we put WAY too much importance on being in romantic relationships. But if you meet someone who is “perfect” and you decide to date them, at that point, you are then choosing to be in a relationship. That does not negate the fact that for a period of time you chose to be single. I’ve been in situations where I was casually dating and guys have asked me to be their girlfriend and I said no. They were great people that I enjoyed spending time with, but I didn’t want to put in the energy and effort required to maintain a relationship at that time. At the end of the day, a relationship takes work and there have been points in my life where I was in my selfish era and could not be bothered

I have met a lot of people while single that I very much could’ve been interested in pursuing a romantic relationship, but I 100% was choosing to be single by choice by not pursuing thatperson. Choosing to be single is understanding that there are good people around, and you could absolutely have a romantic relationship, but you aren’t necessarily going to do that based on your own needs. Some people need to be in a relationship. Some people really don’t. I’m one of those people, but I do love my man.

I think the underlying issue w/the logic of Weezy’s objection to single by choice is that there is an assumption that people who are single by choice actually want partnership and are just waiting. I think there are people who do not want partnership at all. To say that Mya wouldn’t be single if her perfect partner came along also means she would have to want partnership all along. I don’t think Mya or Tracy Ellis Ross have ever expressed a desire for partnership and who is to say they haven’t already met a great man and still were not moved because they actually want to be alone? If that’s the case, they are single by choice.

Yeah, Weezy was thinking only from her perspective. There are people single by choice who aren’t waiting for anyone. Even if the “perfect partner” appears, some people simply prefer to be single. It does happen.

Reading the comments and watching this episode, I feel Mandi’s pain. She was going through a lot in this episode. And podcasts are meant to express your experiences. This was what she felt during her experience. Grief is so so hard. The fact that she was able to get over wanting to be alone and even went to record and vent, is what she needed. Go Mandi! I believe single by choice is real because there is no guarantee that you're going to find "your" person in this lifetime. Weezy keep talking about if you find a great guy, you wouldn't be single but are you settling to be with someone just to be with someone because what's great to someone else may not be great to you. Of course most people want to be married & spend their lives with a partner. But Weezy mentioned not wanting to let someone go. That means you're settling. So some people are single by choice because they are not settling for the options they have.

Lord Mandii I know how you feel girl!!!! I got a lot of trauma from my ex too but one thing I realize now is that even though I went through that, I’m not denying myself love from someone else. I have to also take accountability and admit I allowed that behavior. The blessing is though now I know the patterns of someone who doesn’t have good intentions for me and remove myself from that bs expeditiously to save myself when I hadn’t before.

I think I’m having a disconnect with Weezy’s side because all choice is conditional and exists within a context. Even if I’m making a choice because the conditions aren’t right for a relationship, that’s still a choice because I could choose to dive in to a relationship that doesn’t work/doesn’t make sense for me. Maybe I’m thinking too hard about it lol because choice/agency can be an illusion, but making the best decision for what you have at your disposal isn’t disempowering at all to me.

I think splitting hairs is happening with “I am single by choice” wording. That statement is like a general truth, and conditions apply because life be life-ing 😅 For example, If I am a gym rat and I claim “I stay in the gym,” but there's no gym for one week because of XYZ and wasn't able to go, that doesn't mean I don't stay in the gym no more lol. It’s like in simple present tense, conditions may change here and there but that’s the belief/value. Maybe there should be a clearer sentence but that's what I think is happening.

I agree with wheezy on just about everything except for people who are dating and single not being happy I think that that’s not true simply because a lot of people who are dating. Multiple people are fine with having those options. It’s probably the people who are tied in.
