We called our carriage house the "garottage." We had a building like that in back of our summer home. It was half garage and half summer cottage for guests, and the pronunciation/emphasis was always on the ROT of it all. You're welcome to borrow the term for yourself and the Duncombe House compound. As always, love Quincy, the cats, the property, the history lessons, your obvious affinity for preservation, just all of it! Special props for the dry narration, the BBC-like music and the chapter arrangement of your episodes. This is perfection production! Cheers!

The dog walk segment was a delight. Walking a dog off lead is nearly impossible in America where I live. True, there are dog parks, but you’re typically surrounded by dozens of other canines. The combo of delightful music and rough hewn but idyllic pastures was the perfect way to end my day. I can just imagine the toasty fire and tumbler of whiskey that awaited you at the end.

Well I truly feel as though I have fallen down the rabbit hole! On a dreary, cold and rainy day last week I stumbled upon your highly entertaining channel. I live in the mid-south (USA) and we’ve been forced to spend quite a bit of time indoors while experiencing the latest blast of Arctic air. It was such a fortuitous click of a button that led me here. I have thoroughly enjoyed every one of your videos…..not once, not twice, but THREE times. (Lord I think I’m in need of an intervention) I’ve just watched “Bleak midwinter renovations” again and my curious gardener’s heart jumps every time at the sight of the trough and pots outside the Coach House. Rewind, play, Rewind, play (love, love, love). Can’t wait until Jazzy dives into the reno on the greenhouse. Keep the videos coming. I so appreciate your hard work and wit.

Two weeks is a long time to wait for another episode of my favourite video. As well as your delicious commentary, I appreciate your artistry and vocabulary... and Quincy's happy pampered life. In a long life, I've had fifteen ( rescued ) dogs of every description, three at a time - six cavalier King Charles, two afghans, two salukis, one borzoi, two labradors, one boxer, one mastiff - and it's a joy to see such a joyful dog as Quincy - so well trained he didn't even sniff the crisps during scrabble. We can no longer have dogs as we live in a protected forest where almost extinct flightless birds and other rare species abound, and which would rapidly disappear if there were any dogs here.

Yes, love the long episodes. Enjoyed the walk in the mist. I wondered about Quincy being eye-level to the laser-level beam tool. She doesn't know, like we do, not to do a long look at the beams, I can't imagine it wouldn't be harmful to her eyes...what say you? You could call the current anonymous room the "Game Room" for three (probably lame reasons) 1. The Billiard "Game". 2. The cooler will one day likely keep your wild "Game" meat: grouse, pheasants, venison, and rabbits in the cooler. 3. The dirty laundry.....often quite "Gamey". I know, quite a poor stab at humor.....you are the Master, of the turn of a phrase providing a joyful giggle for all.

Aw! two weeks till the next vid. I was just loving being a virtual dog owner and during the walk having delicious day dreams cantering my horse across your perfect picturesque wood land and field. You are so blessed. Thank you for sharing your journey. Looking forward to the next splendidly crafted episode. Ttfn.

Thank you for the lovely icy walk. So calming and cooling as I hunker down during a 40° Celsius day. At least my humidity is only about 20%, not like the east coast of Australia. Hope the humidity in your walls is decreasing.

One thing I will never understand about the English countryside is how you know where the walking paths are and how to get back to where you started. You're so blessed to live in such a lovely place. If I could redo my life, I'd move to the Cotswolds and seldom leave. Thank you for that stunningly beautiful 5 minute walk. I'm going to watch that part again before bed.

Fantastic Melanie we are going to work a specific longer walk video for everyone to enjoy! We know all the paths round our house like the back of our hands luckily plus footpaths are shown on all our maps 😄

Your channel entered my life exactly when I needed reminding that the opportunity to renovate and ward a historical home is a pleasure and a gift. It's an adventure and should be treated like one! We will be embarking on our own renovation adventure this year, and to hear, witness and share the true joy of the process is inspiring. So many people soon start to resent the process, fall into negativity, and lose the sense of awe and joy. Thanks, and also, loved the walk! Hope to follow along on a spring walk soon!

Renovating an old home can seem like a thankless task but you have to have passion and enjoy the journey and if you do it becomes a gift! Thank you so much for joining us here, the best of luck with your project I can’t wait to hear more about it as it progresses. TTFN 😊😊

Your vlog is superb. I love listening to your explanations. The misty fields during the dog walk reminded me of pride and prejudice. Lizzy( Keira Knightley) and Darcy(Matthew Macfadyen) finally finding each other on the fields in early morning hour. Thank you for taking us with you along your journey.

I so enjoy your bi weekly diaries here on YT. I'm surprised that, with all you've to do, you can squeeze us in that much! We also (S.E. Wisconsin, USA) are experiencing record cold, and I'm so thankful I don't have to be out in it! As for that outbuilding name, I'm sure it was a servants home originally, but then as servants dwindled it became a store house for various things that madam didn't want in the main house, like the billiard table! They do take up an inordinate amount of space! TTFN!

Chapter two should have been called "In or out, which does Quincy prefer" 😂! It appears that she might catch on to the work part, if it involves fetching wood for the log burner😮! The cats however seem to like just sitting by the fire as someone else feeds the flame😊! Thanks for the walk in the woods and fields😊! Beautiful Scenery❤!

My dear old things. Such a treat watching your video over luncheon. It was particularly heart warming to have shared the story of the Buckingham swimming pool and to identify the stooge in advert. However, we were much alarmed to see that non other than Vladimir Lenin was posing in the designer's chair!
