Grief. Where do you begin when you feel like you’re slipping through quicksand? Jack and Rebecca bring home three babies while grieving the loss of another. Randall just reunited with his birth father, William, but now grieves his terminal illness. All channel their grief differently. How do we go through the process of grief with care and ultimately come out on the other side of it? Who do we lean on in these moments of darkness so we don’t have to face it alone? Kate reminds us of the importance of being there for each other, no matter the circumstances… time after time. Deep breaths.

I just want to say that Mandy Moore is the best actress, I mean they all are. But I think her portrayal of Rebecca from episode 1 to series finale… phenomenal and honestly underrated and should win ALL the awards.

@aekelly Right? She definitely NEEDS to, especially after her portrayal of Rebecca. She played her in different ages so so well. I think from all the cast(all which we fell in love with), she did the most portrayal from age, which means different growth experiences for her character. Also after finding the death of Jack...oof, she did amazing to get us in the feels

“The show is not sad. You’re sad. Life is sad.” I agree with you, Chris… there’s always something that will throw us off-course in this life and will allow us to connect to the show on a much deeper level. We just have to go through the motions no matter what. Grief is a powerful and complicated emotion, a feeling that no one will ever come to understanding because everyone handles it in a different way. There’s no right or wrong when you’re experiencing it. Thank you for discussing this topic, you guys! It’s very important ❤️

Them mentioning Jack's tendency to sleeping on the floor in the first few episodes just made me think, he was literally in a war. He would've slept on the floor a lot during that time. I've heard that sometimes that carries over after you leave the warzone. I'd never really thought about it before, but for some reason that kinda hit me listening to this...

I just adore this podcast! I know I truly loved the show, but listening to the podcast, I am learning WHY I loved it so much! Things that touched my heart, just "because it DID" but your drilling down on the acting helped explain to me WHY it did that to me. I am shouting, "yes, that's how I felt, too!" or "yes, that is how it affected me, too!" So very enjoyable to be listening to this. I had no intention to actually watch the series again, because I loved it so much the first time and didn't want to watch it after being analyzed, but the more I hear the podcast, that is EXACTLY what I want to do. Thank you.

Speaking of handling the babies and actor freedom, 1 that sticks out a lot is when Toby introduces himself to baby Jack as "the 1 with the beard". And, like it was just meant to happen, the baby playing Jack touches his beard and Chris says "exactly". Just felt like the perfect thing to happen and perfect response.

Please don’t stop doing this! If you guys can keep this going for every single episode I would be so grateful. There was a part in this discussion where you all are talking about grieving and feeling like there was so much more that you should have done for that person that passed away. Sterling said “you did all you could do, certain things were outside of your control.” Immediately sobbed! I had press pause and allow myself that cry because no one has ever spoken to that part of my grief when I coincidentally lost my mother to stomach cancer. You all have no idea the impact that you are making. This Is Us was hands down my favorite show and I hated to see it come to an end. This podcast was so needed! Please keep going 🙏🏽

The end fan segment about grief was beautiful and so helpful. I almost skipped it but I am so glad I didn’t. My father passed 6 months ago and I am still deep in the trenches of grieving. I thought that being a grown 40 year old woman that I would be able to process my dad’s passing fairly well. But at the end of the day as they said. He was a part of me. We were a we and now I am an I. It feels lonely and jarring and so hard to accept. Thank you for being so open with people and creating this space for fans and viewers. It is beautiful.

I lost my dad two years ago and related closely to every episode as a mom of two boys aged 15 and 8. Wife, mother, daughter, caretaker. I related to Rebeca very much. It’s amazing you’re doing this and it’s incredible to see it through your eyes. Nothing has been more difficult but it is true that this show has started many conversations in our home. My parents were married 42yrs and four kids and two grandkids. They worked together as nurses and were clearly soulmates. It’s almost like reliving my childhood through other eyes. I see my own mother’s grief through Rebecca’s eyes and feel it deeply. Nothing is more difficult to navigate than grief because nothing is more permanent.

I can't believe the story of the couple with triplets/twins- heart wrenching, but what a God send this show was to them especially WOW! I related to so much of this material over all seasons- between randall reconnecting with his father, seeking information about his mother, as well as when kevin and randall had their awful fight. I connected with randall being the fixer- and his therapy session discussing that! wow. that hit home! so much of this series hit home. brilliant writing and brilliant acting!

I have a question about Randall. Kevin is always referenced as the oldest, but it was shown that Randall was born almost a day before Rebecca and Jack had their babies. They had him share a birthday with Kate and Kevin, which ok, he could have been born after midnight. I know Kevin is Kate’s big brother, but Randall was the oldest of both. Just wondered why that was never brought up.

Rebecca’s decisions about Randall’s father though make so much sense. As a 1979 adopted child. Closed adoption was the norm. It was so different from now. As a mom I understood her decision so much. But also the missed opportunities in it. The last season actually sparked me to finally search for my birth mother, whose name I always had. Discovered she died less than a year before.

She plays three stages in Rebecca’s life from teenager to 90 years so effortlessly. The transition is seamless. She deserves to win so many awards. Yet the powers that be have overlooked this phenomenal actor’s talents.

The only thing I love more about This is Us is this podcast. Mandy, Sterling and Chris make a great team. I also want to see Mandy mouth the outro as well as Chris! :)

This show definitely presented a family lacking support systems by way of friends and family.
