Hello Nanou and Grinch. I just binge watched every episode that I have missed. It has been a busy time here with holidays, work etc. Oh my, you guys have been busy as well. The Shed, Poly Tunnel, Staging, Beds, Compost Bins, Water Buttes, Cold Frame, Hauling of Manure, Wood Chips, Bagged Soil, Chopped Leaves...Just Wow! All of the additions to Plot #9 and the work at the new plot #24 is looking fantastic. Great job and looking forward to the next episode. 😊💚🌟

Great work on the new section you could also ramble squash all 😂. Oh keep the mints in a pot or you’ll have them spreading relentlessly. You need what we call a handcart or trolley. You all work so hard even feeling ill ❤. Fabulous job everyone but do look after yourselves get well and keep warm, Ali 🥶🇨🇦

I am thrilled with that basket! I have been using it non stop! Such a great size and yes, perfect for picnics! For the herbs, I am getting Grinch to build me some staging with pallets to put the herbs on as I want to keep them in pots. I want to be able to take them in when it gets cold. I knew mint spreads as my poor mum planted some directly in her garden and it grew everywhere!!! She could never get rid of it! Thank you for mentioning it though as I wouldn’t have known it without my mum’s experience! Actually, I have started weeding the new extension and it has mint running wild in it! It smells lovely when we chopped it down! The weather is a little warmer now. The nights are around 2 degrees instead of going minus, but it is very wet and foggy. Have a lovely weekend! 😘💕🌸

Hi. I always enjoy watching your videos, thank you and get better soon. In Russia, we always plant garlic just before the onset of frost and winter with very low temperatures. Snow and frost have a very good effect on garlic growth in spring, it will grow healthy. You planted garlic and covered it with plastic on top, creating greenhouse conditions. It will start to rot in the future . Open it all up and don't be afraid that the garlic will freeze. Frosts and snow will only make your garlic healthier. Thank you.
@plotno.9 Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your wonderful advice. I will uncover the garlic tomorrow morning. I hope I haven’t damaged it… I was worried that I planted it too late so I thought I should protect it from the frost… it shows this is my first time planting it!!! What a brilliant episode! Sooooo busy! Sorry to hear you’ve had Covid again. Hope you and Fluffy are on the mend now. You got an amazing haul. The little plastic beds are cute! They work well in the tunnel. All those lovely herbs too. Amazing! Made me laugh out loud when Grinch came on to the site with the cold frame. He’s such a trooper! The occupied plots on your site are so well maintained. It did feel a bit like you were trying to convince Grinch that 3 plots is the norm 😂😅😝 Lovely harvests of some beautiful vegetables. Sweetcorn has been Duncan’s favourite harvest this year on our plot 😊

We love sweetcorn and I cannot believe that we actually grew some! And it survived some frosty nights too! It was so sweet and juicy, incredible! I will definitely plant some more next year! I agree with Duncan, it is probably my favourite veg with asparagus! I am thrilled with all the herbs, great bargain. They all seem to enjoy being in the polytunnel! Grinch did well with the cold frame. I did offer to help him but he refused! 😂. We are getting better until the next time!!!! 😘💕🌸

@@plotno.9 I believe it’s one veg where picking and eating asap make the most difference to flavour too. It smells so sweet. Made me think how I can’t wait for my own to grow in a few years. Glad you are both doing better. At least you won’t be poorly with it over Christmas now xx

The hard neck garlic you planted outside will be fine without the extra plastic cover pieces. I just mulch with chopped leaves and chicken wire over that to stop the squirrels from digging….they are my nemesis. My hardneck garlic does just fine with heavy snow here. They actually need the cold period, to cause the cloves to form, and aids in root development and flowering. Don’t forget to give them a little extra nitrogen in the spring a few times. I like the little and often approach. TY for the mention, so kind of you. Your plot extension is already taking shape. Nice to also have new neighbors.
@plotno.9 Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Robin! You have answered my question to two previous really kind people commenting the garlic needed the cold! I covered it because I was so late planting it and it didn’t get a chance to grow a little before the cold. Of course I would do the wrong thing!!! 🫢 I will uncover it today and put some chicken wire on it! Hopefully I haven’t killed it already by covering it! I keep telling Danny, we are no gardeners… complete novices but we are eager to learn! Have a lovely weekend 😘💕🌸
@cathalkelly1 Жыл бұрын
Yes, it needs the cold or else it grows not into a bulb made of many cloves but into a single-clove bulb like onion. On the other hand, you probably do need a physical barrier until it has grown a good bit in order to prevent birds pulling out the cloves when they start to sprout and can look like worms. Finally, it can be slow to show a shoot, but most times that's OK because it is the roots that it is focusing on.
@robinmiller1783 Жыл бұрын

Oh its like Christmas has come early with all your stash. Those water butt's will save you lugging water around, just make sure they are high enough to fit a watering can under the tap, I have three butt's and one of them could do with being higher, but I was going to raise it up a bit more but with all the rain we had during summer it was always full and I hated the idea of draining it away so I use a smaller watering can and I have managed with it. Poor Grinch lugging the cold frame for you, he is a hero, you will have to buy him a trolley for Christmas and he can pull any heavy or bulky items that don't fit in the car.
@plotno.9 Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Liz. I am so pleased about the water butts, I was so lucky to find them! I have a third one at home I am planning to empty and bring to the allotment. Our water is turned off until late March/April so if we have a dry early spring, we will need that water in the butts. Grinch just needs to put a little gutter on the shed now. Thank you for pointing out about the height being right for the water cans, I will double check. Unfortunately Grinch and I have already done presents to each other this year, it was the polytunnel and unwelcome surprise roof repairs which were worse than first expected… it is always the way… but I will keep my eye opened for a second hand one! Treasures can be found on EBay or Facebook Market if you look long enough! You are in my prayers everyday about saving your allotment site. I will keep posting about it. I really hope you will be able to raise enough money. We are such a small channel, we are not much help and I am so sorry about that. I hope some of the bigger channels will post about it too. It is so terrible when allotment site can just be shut down like that! Thinking of you. Much love 😘💕🌸

It has already popped up this December. Little green shoots are showing through.

Nanou, regarding your Garlic, - if you currently have consistent frost every night, I would leave frames for a couple of weeks, to let garlic establish roots. Because you Did plant them late, and they wont be able to get rooted in a frozen soil. If you, however, do not have frost every day and night, and the soil is not frozen yet (as it appears in the video👍), I would remove the frames. Because, as others have allready said, hardneck garlic does Need frost, and will do just great even if it were to drop to - 35C 🤪😃 wich we know wont happen in your area 😃 just at mine 😂😂 We are promised - 20C tomorrow btw 😃🤪 its good that everything is covered with app. 1 meter of snow blanket after all the snowfalls 😂🥰

When we came back there was even more Christmas presents to bring back and all the food my mum bought us to fit in! I miss these times so much, especially when I start decorating the house for Christmas. My mum moved down to the South of France next to my brother after my dad passed away and they both lives in flats so now they come to us but not often at Christmas.
