I’m doing the same thing at my property in Montana. I can’t believe how quickly those trees grow however that is the advantage of southern yellow pines. Looks great.

I have a similar need on our small property with a neighbor right next door. I want to get something planted to allow us for some privacy. Not a big fan of pine trees but, I can't deny how well they function. Never seen that dibbler tool. I will have to look into one of those when I decide what to plant. Great video.

Ur ground dirt is way better then my dirt that’s for sure. My dirt here in California is more compacted then urs and has a bunch of rocks in the ground with it and it’s kinda hard to dig through with a shovel. I wished I had ur kinda dirt.

I may have missed this, but were your pines staggered, or did you plant the pines directly across from each other in each row? Love the privacy! I've got some coming from Andrews Nursery in January. Choctawhatchee sand pines.

Can u plant them right now as we speak. I bought 3 dwarf pine trees i think that's what they're called. They have some little balls/knots growing on them. They're about 2 feet in height. Should I keep them in the container or plant them now?

I've always planted when dormant, that's usually late winter and early spring. I'm not sure for your situation.

We always plant when dormant, that's usually in January in Florida. It might be 20 degrees or 70, you never know. I do not water them, way too many.

Nothing, I did lose a few to digging animals and deer. I replaced those the following year.

I'm in the same boat as you in terms of land next door selling and wanting privacy now along the long stretch exactly like how you have done. I was going to do 3 rows wide (each row staggered for more privacy) with spacing like yours. How far apart would you say row to row is? my guess was maybe 12-15ft so the trees can bush out in between.

Probably 12 feet (recommend even wider), these pines get so large and bushy that they will be touching in just a few years. Cedars offer the most privacy, but about 5-6 small cedars cost what I paid for a 1000 pines (not kidding).

What percentage would you say you lose while they're getting established?

Depends on the weather. I've been fortunate and stayed in the 90 percent + success range.

I didn't, we depend on rain for them, that's why you plant them during their dormant season (late winter).

No there was not a easement, when the property beside me sold from the same family that owns the back property, it cut their road off. Thus the reason for a new road to the back property that is still owned by the original family. The trees are very affordable, 60 bucks per 500 trees. I'm in North Florida, might be flip flops one day and 20 degrees the next. Our winters are crazy.

@@henryrodgers3409 no the easement is actually on the property that sold, it just borders mine. So the new owner is the one that lost property to the easement, I just lost some privacy. Just one of those things I did not think of, or I would have planted trees years ago for privacy.

I got 1000 but only put 600 or so in the ground. You have to place your order in the fall at the nursery and pick up late December through February.

True, but large pockets around fresh roots is not something you want. I had to replace about 18 or so due to drought. It's a couple of years later now and they are taking off, bushing out and several feet tall.

at least plant some oaks, pines are worthless pulp. oaks will net you quarter million in 15+ years.

Exact opposite here, hardly no hardwood market. Pulp and sawmills everywhere, that's why there is millions of acres of pines here.
