All the moves we experienced in our decades as a USAF family, my first priority on move in day was to get our beds set up. Especially with kids, you want them to have something familiar to be ready for bedtime. As crazy as it sounds, as soon as I unpacked my bread machine, I started a loaf of fresh bread so that our house would smell like a home. I feel pure admiration for both of you…working together and using your sweat and muscles to make your home a reality. Keep up the great work.

Oh, I have had the 90s playlists on REPEAT this entire renovation! Tragic Kingdom was also one of my most-played CDs back in the day, ridin' around in my '93 Geo Prizm 🤣

You guys have gotten a lot done in a small amount of time. It was smart of you guys to attack the bedrooms first so that you have a nice place to sleep. With your energy the kitchen will be done in no time! Really enjoying these videos. Get some rest!!!🪡🧵👗🥰

You are so brave. Tackling all this and making your own cabinets. I have 150% faith that it will be beautiful when you are finished. We moved house during Covid, and I had the kitchen done. The kady before me was short, and had lowered all the counters by 6 inches. I am 5’8” and that was not going to work. Even with professionals working full days it took them 2 months. You are so far ahead. I have faith in you Cannot wait for the finished product. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks! Gosh, 6 inches!! That would be tough for my 6'9" height, too! But I guess that's the beauty of making them custom! :)

There's a lot going on at that place! Watching this series makes me want to clean my kitchen a thousand times. LOL. Pet stains, pet odors, dead bugs in the trim, mold - no wonder you felt you had to "Cover up that little portal to hell." I'm assuming you have a sump pump for water issues in the basement. Maybe it's not working or is worn out. Great job - you two are working like Spartans! Can't wait to see the cabinets you build. :) Thanks for showing us the process.

Oh boy. You are moving right along! Great work! When we did our kitchen in our ‘new to us’ house I planned and built all the cabinets before demolishing the old kitchen. This way it was only a day without cabinets! We put plywood on top until the countertop was ready…we even put the old sink back in until the new sink could go in with the new countertop.

Demo is no joke! When we started our kitchen reno, we had to scrape the GLUED drywall off the studs! That scraping required a hammer to tap the scraper behind the glued drywall. My hands hurt so badly - I totally understand your statement about how the pounding goes through every joint! We’ve spent the last 12 years working on the house, room by room. When it’s done correctly, there is such a reward. Love the progress and closing off the door is such a good idea! All the best!

My husband was in the army for the first several years of our marriage, and I had to learn to do DIY because there was nobody else around to fix the plumbing or do minor carpentry. You are working so hard on this house, and I am feeling your pain. It’s so hard when it’s not really anything you’ve ever had instruction in, but you have to do it. That scraping of the ceiling looked so painful on so many levels. Keep up the good work, this will end and you will have a fancy house in the end.

So smart to have a clean space to sleep and clean space for boxes while they wait to be unpacked. I’ve lived through renovations, too, and it’s rough, but last 2 weeks we’ve had family staying with us including a 20-month-old. Talk about controlled chaos! No flat surface was safe from the STUFF, of course including the floor. I’m sad to see them go, but I can breath again🥳 Love your kitchen plans. Keep those top of mind as you work so hard🥰

My gaawwwd!! Those stupid soffits! Are there earthquakes where you are or something?? 😅 You guys are doing such a great job! So satisfying to see the fresh paint in the bedrooms and those cabinets removed. Love your bead board idea and this whole reno series. (A tip for for sore hands: get a small rubber ball and roll your palms over it for a little massage, and then soak them in a little Epsom salt bath -- it helps! 😉)

Right!? I mean, they would have stood the test of time, so I guess I can't blame them! And I will try that trick for soothing my hands and joints! I keep telling myself, "When I finish this kitchen, I'm treating myself to a mani-pedi"...but may have to do it before the kitchen is done 😅

Those things were meant to last, so they needed to be sturdy! Lots of weight involved when the cabinets were fully loaded. If your cabinets go all the way to the ceiling, won’t the doors be really oversized? If your basement is damp, maybe you need some new exterior drainage or backfill? We had to do that at our old property.

I love how beadboard and shiplap look! So pretty! But so hard to keep clean in a kitchen (think splatters and grease getting in the cracks). the ease of install may not be worth all of the extra cleaning work. Just a thought!

Gosh, I feel for you guys! It's so disorienting initially being in a new house, and also having it be a construction zone makes it even harder! I wonder if taping some of those plastic dividers with zipper access would be a good idea to separate your areas that are in use from the construction mess? Just as a way to contain the mess?

Great job, Casey. I had to chuckle at the upside down electrical outlet on that back kitchen wall. No one thought to install it the same way as the other three on that wall? That soffit was a beast! So exciting to see this all come together.

I really admire the fact that you are going to be making your kitchen cabinets, and the mood board looks fab. I really can’t wait to see how it turns out. Myself and my partner have renovated 3 houses now, and lived in total chaos at times, but Casey it is going to be so worth it when it is completed. And knowing that you both did the vast majority of the work is even more rewarding 😊😊

Are you going to have any room in the kitchen for a pantry cupboard? I know that can take away some countertop space, but oh so nice for food storage versus cupboards. WE all have faith that you’ll get the kitchen done! Great job-enjoy those older appliances because eating out can get really old (and kinda expensive, too). 😢

We encountered the same thing when we removed a bathroom vanity so we could put in a pedestal sink. The amount of nails used and also found the studs weren’t at the standard distance apart. Home ownership, the dream vs reality, lol! You are doing great!

Even if the cabinets don’t go all the way to the ceiling, you would think the builders would leave space for storage above the cabinets instead of closing it all up. My 1954 kitchen has the cabinets going to the ceiling. When I added another wall cabinet, I settled for a shorter one. But it’s on the other side of the kitchen, so it’s not too bizarre.
