40:20 Harishji, There are two main reasons why you might see the sun setting behind clouds rather than other mountain peaks while observing from a mountain yourself: Cloud Altitude: Clouds often exist at much higher altitudes than even the peak you're standing on. Mountains typically range from a few hundred meters to a few kilometers tall, while clouds can reach heights of up to 20 kilometers! Since the sun dips below the horizon as it sets, it can easily disappear behind a high-altitude cloud layer before it gets blocked by a lower mountain range. Earth's Curvature: Our planet isn't flat; it has a curve. From a mountain peak, your view extends further along the horizon than if you were standing at sea level. However, this horizon is still limited by the Earth's curvature. Distant mountain peaks might be just beyond the visible horizon even though they're technically closer to you than some clouds. Additionally: Atmospheric Refraction: As sunlight enters Earth's atmosphere, it bends slightly due to differing air densities. This refraction can make the sun appear slightly higher above the horizon than it actually is, further increasing the chance of seeing it set behind clouds. So, the combination of cloud altitude, Earth's curvature, and atmospheric refraction all contribute to why you might see the sun setting behind clouds while standing on a mountain peak. We went to Panchmari, Jabalpur and Gwalior in a single trip in 2019 October. It was a wonderful experience back then as well. Agin we visited MP in December just after 2 months. This time by road from Kolkata. This time we visited Amarkantak, Jabalpur again, then Bhopal, Bhojpur, Bhimbetka, Khajuraho. Then we came back via Varanasi. That too was an amazing experience. Roads were excellent to say the least. Through your MP video, we are reliving the moments ❤❤

Hi Harish Ji, the mountains being low compared to the far side horizon of the Pachmarhi plateau is the reason you couldn’t see the sunset behind the mountains. I asked the same question in 2001 and got the answer from our gypsy driver cum hotel owner cum chef. Good times!!! Thanks for this journey to nostalgia! Much love

Glad to see you visit this beautiful and natural oasis. We visit Panchmari every time we are in India. Only problem is it’s getting dirtier by the time. We were there in June this year and the guide took us to a beautiful hike to an untouched water feature where there was no trash around the water features. I wish that the local authorities address the issue of littering in this beautiful gem. Next time you visit ask your guide to take you to track some of the hidden waterfalls. Hope you enjoy your travels.
