Thanks for tip about ironing fabric when glueing. It made a big difference in smoothing out.

I've seen a lot of PMF videos where they put a second layer of glue on top of the canvas while the first layer of glue is still wet. That way the two layers of glue seep together through the weave of the cloth to make a solid waterproof layer. I guess it's not necessarily needed since the paint is still going to waterproof it. Looks good.

That makes sense. We touched up a few spots that didn't look saturated enough by putting glue over the top, but a whole second layer would add even more protection. Happily, there has been no leaking through my PMF yet, so hopefully all the layers of paint hold up.

It really was fun to spend the time building with my dad. And mom was super helpful with painting. I was lucky to have a family "team" to help with the build.

I've watched a lot of videos on the PMF and yours is a good as any so far , going to check the link you referred as well as I'm thinking if you said it's great it has to be. I have done a little actual fiber glassing and I'm by no means good at that lol. I really like the modular set up, I was wondering if the PMF would add thickness , you answered that LOL. Love the build series! So in the future you guys are still going to attempt the Hiatus style full pop-up? Oru designs has a hard sided pop up that could possibly be easier to duplicate, maybe you have already seen it? It is the Bruin model. I went and saw one a few weeks ago and they weigh 400 lbs, very impressive but Hiatus seems to be the coolest one out there because of the origami type fold up style.

Yes! I have the full pop-up walls stored in the garage right now and want to try it again this summer. I have seen the Oru and do agree that style might be easier and is still really nice looking. I'm so impressed with the lightweight truck camper options being developed by multiple companies right now. The Oru style could be an option if we are still having trouble this summer. But I think we figured out where we were going wrong and have a good solution planned. Fingers crossed.

What was your issue with raising the pop up on your own? In the middle of building one and hopefully I don’t have any problems haha

The biggest problem we were having was that the side walls were cut to fit perfectly. As I pushed the roof up, it had a little sway side and side and the walls would rub and add friction. If I would have had more time last summer, we could have fixed it, but we just ran out of build time. Ultimately, I may need to trim some of the walls and then we need to create a stronger fixed strut/guide to keep the roof and walls aligned as I am raising everything up. My dad was able to power through it and push up as it was, but it just wasn't going to be easy enough for me to do alone on a nightly basis.

@@WanderwithKate oh I see. Mine will be folding up on hinges similar to traveling by Tacoma’s build if you’ve seen that so I don’t think I’ll run into that problem. Great job though! Awesome having the family help
