I was a closeted gay kid in my last year of high school and my parents were barreling toward their divorce when AF was being filmed. Then suddenly, you guys came crashing through the third wall -- and you made me and my family normal. Ultimately, only you can determine if it was worth it. But I hope you all recognize that the show was just the sort of breakthrough finale the tumultuous sixties cried out for!❤

Not to excuse the obvious incompetence of PBS, but is it possible they handled it so poorly because they assumed this project wouldn't be noticed, aka be an anonymous bomb? PBS in the 60s and 70s was basically children's programming and a few niche programs seen by a handful of people. These people didn't know how to deal with a hit. If this situation happened with one of the major networks I'd be more upset but dealing with PBS back in the day, you pretty much have to expect they'd blow it.
