I will never forget the first time I saw Eric Carr. I was 10 years old and KISS was on a show called Kids Are People Too. I was a huge Peter Criss fan, but was completely won over by Eric. His personality was so incredibly sweet, warm and genuine. I became a fan of his right there, and of course when I heard him play on Creatures he blew me away. Saw him during the Animalize tour here in Canada and thought he great. Remember when I heard he had died, I had just gotten home from work and my Mom told me. Couldn't believe it. Miss u still Eric and really wish u were here❤

He was the coolest member of Kiss. I was able to meet him in Philly during the Crazy Nights tour. He was not only one of coolest but also the nicest. We took a photo and signed my tour book. Sadly missed.

I'm from Brasil and KISS fan. When Eric Carr died, i cried a lot. I felt like a familiar person was gone. Eric was in my house everyday, in my sound, in my vídeo, in my posters on the wall. I love drums and Eric is my idol and he aways be.

I miss him (Eric Carr). Wish I had a chance or a opportunity to see him in concert, or even write to him if he was with us today. He passed away the year I was born hurts and still cry when I see his pictures or even hear stories of him cause he was a big influence to me to sit, pick up a pair of sticks and play on my drums. Just now seeing your comment but I was lucky enough to see Eric Carr with them on KISS' Creatures Of The Night Tour and even though ticket sales were low and the attendance was low, they headlined with the Plasmatics opening, and I can't remember all that much of the Plasmatics (R.I.P. WendyO) but KISS still played the heaviest show I have ever seen out of any band I have ever seen. They were full on going for it and I couldn't believe how they sounded and what a great show they put on. I saw them with Ace.Peter, Gene and Paul on the DYNASTY Tour on October 4th, 1979 but I can't remember hardly a thing about it because I was so mesmerized and mind blown sewing my heroes at 13 years of age. Lol. But you take care and sorry you never got to see Eric Carr live because he was one of the best ever, and it was a sad day the day he died. I remember that I got home from school and my mom showed me the newspaper clip about him dieing. I believe I went right to bed, if I remember right. That band got me through some rough times as a kid with no dad around. They really did. But hey, you take care.

Of course, when Eric died, there was no internet. I heard of his passing, when I was eating cereal before school. I was 15. I was numb and utterly shocked because I didn’t even know he was sick! I’m fortunate to have seen him perform once on June 4, 1990. I still miss him...

I remember where I was when he passed away I was at a friend's house we were all listening to you know a kiss record I believe it was I think it was creatures of the night it was all radio and then all the sudden it's stopping when the song was over it was playing on the radio is stop and then they said late breaking news we have decided tragic news of the passing of Eric car and they also said another Rockstar had passed away Freddie Mercury passed away two is all so it's kind of weird both of those guy died on the same day you know

The first time I met Eric Carr was at Great Adventure in Jackson , NJ in 1990. I went thru the gate entrance and as we walked towards the big water fountain I said to my girlfriend , that looks like Eric Carr. She thought I was crazy and I yelled out his name and he turned around. He hung out with us for a few minutes and was just a really down to earth guy.

I will always remember the day that Eric Carr and Freddie Mercury passed away on. I had turned 13 years old on November 24,1991, and heard about their deaths on MTV News. It does not feel like close to 30 years have gone by since. I was not a Kiss fan at that time, but I remember being sad because of how young he was and Freddie. At that time I was more into bands like Iron Maiden,Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Megadeth, Testament, and other Thrash Metal bands. I became a massive fan of Kiss many years later, about five years ago. I got their Unplugged CD and loved it so much that within six months I had all of Kiss's studio albums, live albums, compilation albums, DVD's, Boxsets, and many live bootleg albums. Eric Carr in my opinion was most definitely Kiss's best drummer ever. He was a powerhouse drummer big time. He looked like a really cool guy from all the interviews that I have seen him do. I really love hearing that Ace Frehley and Eric were really close and great friends the whole time before he passed away. Even though it took me many years to become a Kiss fan, I has already been a huge fan of Ace's because I have always loved his band Frehley's Comet since the first album came out back in 1987. I actually did not know until I was an older teenager that he was an original member of Kiss. Too bad that Kiss would not use most of Eric's music because the Eric Carr Jam/ Breakout is an amazing song in my opinion. To me it is much better than most of the songs that made it on the Kiss albums from Animalize all the way up to Hot In The Shade.

First concert was Kiss on the "Hot in the Shade" tour with Eric in Shreveport, La. Fantastic show. I saw them twice on the reunion tour which was great to see the originals and once with the current lineup in 04, but that first show will always be my first and Eric was awesome.

I was there that night too at the Palladium. The Rockats were the opening band. Very hot inside, no air conditioning. My ears rang the next day. I remember Paul did a running jump into a windmill, it looked great but when he landed he hit a clam. He looked so cool nobody cared it was the wrong chord, Eric's drums boomed like thunder.

While I'd love to see Eric & Bruce there... They didn't help create what KISS was nor were they any part of the band's mega success or even there anywhere near the band's peak. But even more is that fact that they were in all reality employees who had very little input. KISS was NOT a band after Peter's departure. It was two guys living off it's legacy with a now less important 3rd wheel in Ace Frehley. Do some of the other members belong in the RaRHoF? Sure, but not as members of KISS because they didn't really have anything to do with what KISS was. That was Ace, Gene, Peter, Paul and no other member. If anybody other than those four deserve to be in, it would be Bill Aucoin.

Byron MacDowell So, being in the band for 10 years and playing on 8 studio albums isn’t enough? I get your point to an extent, but let’s face it, Eric played on more studio albums than Peter did. And when you have everyone in the E Street Band, including the guy that goes and fetches them coffee, inducted into the HOF, I think it’s only fair that Eric and BK should have definitely been inducted as part of KISS. Just my opinion.

The unit of gene, Paul, Bruce, and Eric will always be official lineup number 2. All the albums they played on were gold and platinum and helped keep Kiss alive and relevant in the 80’s. That lineup should be celebrated in their own rite.

My first hearing of Peter leaving was the 16 Magazine headline of News Flash: Peter Criss Leaves KISS. The article was titled "KISS Marches To The Tune Of A New Drummer". I bought it and just stared for hours at Peter unmasked and Eric's photos in the Fox makeup. It was incredible. I kept the centerfold of Ace and the color pic of Eric on my wall for years.

My all time favourite Kiss line up was Stanley Simmons Frehley Carr

I like the Frehley/Criss, Kulick/Carr lineups about equally. I think the OG lineup made the best music by far but each lineup (until today's) has been a different beast. Had Eric & Bruce been given more input, KISS could have been just as good as it was with Ace & Peter. Carr was much more of a hard rock drummer than Criss but I absolutely love Criss' style. Not many can or will admit this but it was Peter Criss that gave KISS it's unique sound. Without him they were kinda typical. Not in a bad way, just not as unique. Carr definitely had much more style than Singer who is technically great but extremely generic. Style-wise, I'd rank them Criss>Carr>Singer. Technical proficiency would go Singer>Carr>Criss. Either way, Carr is solid at both ends, but I prefer style way over technicality. As far as the guitarists go, Frehley & Kulick are two of my favorite players. I think Bruce is a better all around player and a genuine class act but Ace has style, a great tone and one hell of an outlandish personality. Apples & oranges. I just wish KISS had maintained the 4-stars philosophy Ace & Peter left.

@@whataboutrob442 That's your opinion and you're entitled to it. I find Singer's playing forgettable. Yes, he is technically a great player. Technical ability does not impress me in the slightest. What I remember most about seeing/hearing Eric Singer live is how generic he sounds despite being so technically proficient. Take his drum solos... Instantly forgettable. To this day I can still hear Peter's jungle beats from the Reunion Tour or Eric Carr's Egyptian themed solo from the Hot in the Shade Tour. But I'll be damned if any of Singer's solos have stuck with me beyond the instant he bashed them. Generic, forgettable skin pounding. He's a player, not a musician. To me, he might as well be a drum machine.

Now if he combined those skills with actual musical ability, that would be one thing but his lack of vibe, groove, soul, feel, whatever you want to call it make all of those "skills" irrelevant because he could easily be replaced by a computer program and $100 worth of equipment that could be purchased at Toys R' Us. Now I will admit I was impressed by Eric Singer on Paul's solo tour in the 80's. As much as I knew I was going to miss Eric Carr, I was also excited to see Eric Singer on the Revenge Tour. That said, the Revenge Eric Singer was NOT the Eric Singer that impressed me on Paul's tour. I realized it (again) during his solo which I immediately recognized (much of) as a copy of Eric Carr's Animalize solo. His playing immediately came off as "reeled in" and without any style of it's own. He wasn't making the songs his own nor was he trying to play them as the original drummer(s) had. He just plays them like a programmed machine. This has become more & more the case as time has gone on. Since Paul's late 80's tour, the only truly memorable bit of Eric Singer drumming for me was on CoS' Seduction of the Innocent. The rest has been (sorry to keep using the term) generic. Each one at their best, I'll take Peter Criss over Eric Singer any day. Even with failing ability, I'll take Peter's style over Eric Singer's skill. Eric Carr had both, but Peter brought a more unique style to KISS. So again... Style-wise: Peter C>Eric C>Eric S. Technical Ability: Eric S>Eric C>Peter C. I stand by both of those observations. You may prefer skill but that's your taste. I simply don't have the same taste.

Kiss at the Palladium I was there I was outside chilling out when a bunch of older people were behind me well to people I asked him while you're kiss fans and they were like yeah and they were laughing it turned out to be Eric cars mom and dad that night was very special I enjoyed it that night I also got Gene Simmons his ring Eric was a really nice guy very cool dude met him like two or three times he was always a really nice person to meet it was cool because one time we actually chilled out and talk and I told them I didn't look too far away from when he worked on Jamaica Avenue when he did the furniture with his dad and I ran into him on Jamaica Avenue one time not knowing that one day he would be in kiss the sweetest guy ever man I really feel bad that he's gone the one person that was down to earth to meet and him being a superstar the being there at that show I thought was pretty cool the Palladium show was definitely one to remember

Growing up as a little kid I didn't know any English because my parents came to America before I was born from Greece. i wish they had allowed Eric to contribute more song wise and at the least feature his vocals on one song per album starting with THE ELDER -just incorporate him into the band and continue what they had started but G and P egos were too big. Bill Aucoin should have pushed for Eric to sing on THE ELDER before he got pushed out.

!980, when Peter was out in KISS , I remember reading the news in 16 Magazine. To me, KISS' rock bottom was just before "Creatures of the Night" record. All my friends and I thought they were lost musically. I didn't buy the record till early 83'. That record was so kick-ass! I couldn't believe my ears how cool sounding it was. My favorite eras of the bands records will always be 75'-78' original lineup. Then, it became 82' - 84' Gene,Paul, Eric, Vinnie. I got to see both their tours. They were amazing! As good as Mark St John and Bruce Kulick were as guitarists', I think KISS' records got too pop sounding. Asylum was really last whole record I liked." Sonic Boom" , cool album for them at that stage. Rock on KISS and all past members.

It sucks because they had a phenomenal drummer & guitar player (BK), but KISS was the Gene & Paul Show. They completely squandered a great lineup. KISS was Ace, Gene, Peter & Paul... That's what made them great. They could have been great with Eric & Bruce but Gene & Paul wanted a brand not a band. Now they're riding out their golden years pretending the new guys are Ace & Peter and playing to "fans" who KISS couldn't have paid to attend a show in the 70's or 80's, I missed Eric's first show but I did get to see him perform in makeup in Glens Falls, NY on the 10th Anniversary (CotN) Tour. Sad to say, I also attended his funeral in Pine Bush, NY. I was "local" to Eric. In fact some of my family is in the same cemetery. I spoke with his parents on a few occasions. Once was right around the anniversary of his passing which I didn't realize at the time. Long story short, my Wife & I spent quite a few minutes crying with the Caravellos. I'll never forget that. One thing I can say is they did not speak well of KISS. They talked to us about the whole insurance thing. I really can't remember the specifics as I was just so excited to be talking them, but they did say the KISS Company cancelled his insurance. That I distinctly remember.

@Abe Froman Exactly! It's really sad because I grew up idolizing Paul Stanley. He was for the longest time my favorite band member. I've now come to realize what a trivial, hateful person he is and how he blames everyone else for everything while taking no responsibility for his own failures or mistakes. I doubt Paul Stanley is haunted by Eric Carr outside of how treating him better may have benefited Paul Stanley. As much as Paul likes to point out every one else's faults and lay blame, he's gone out of his way to keep the appearance of their presence. If everything is all their fault, why isn't Paul now a huge solo artist? When he talks about Ace not blossoming or how Peter's skills declined... Has he listened to himself sing in the last 15 years? At least Peter can say he was on drugs. Paul is just in denial. Yeah, KISS is going out on top... On top of the shit pile.

@Abe Froman I spoke with them a couple, maybe three times. It wasn't private by any means. For a while, they had a booth at this big indoor flea market in Fishkill, NY. They sold Eric Carr memorabilia along with assorted rock recordings. Prior to it being a flea market the space had been a mall where they (along with his Sister) ran an actual store/Eric Carr museum with the Crazy Nights drum kit being on prominent display (yes I got to sit behind it). Anyway, all of our conversations took place during business hours at the flea market. It was noisy and somewhat rushed. We mostly talked with Connie while Al ran the booth. This is all very late 90's or early 00's. Most of what we talked about was me blabbering about how much I loved their Son. Like I said, I was just excited to be around them and much of what they said was lost on me. My Wife may remember more than I do but she's still asleep. I do know they did not have any love for Paul or Gene (Paul especially). They did say his health insurance was dropped after they had been promised Eric would be taken care of. If memory serves, they (KISS) blamed it on company policy, insurance regulations or something like that. I do remember Connie saying any pictures you may see of Paul or Gene visiting Eric in the hospital were photo ops and not much else. I really wish I'd payed more attention to what they were saying at the time. Nothing was ever said of how much he made in KISS. On a side note, after all my babbling they gave me a set of his drumsticks. Not some signed fan merchandise, but a set that he actually played at home with. They're easily my most prized KISS related possession. Connie also gave us his Sister's business email which I never built up the courage to use (LOL) for fear of more of my fan babbling. She designed most of the merchandise like the t-shirts and figurines. One thing I will say is that I did notice Paul crying at the funeral. Suffice to say, I had overhead someone else at the church say it was because he'd just been "chewed out" by one of the Caravellos. Who's to say, but yes I did witness Paul crying as I walked by where he was sitting (on my way to the casket).

I remember seeing a copy of 16 magazine with Kiss on the cover and the caption "Flash! Peter Criss Leaves Kiss!" That might have been how I found out of his departure. The article claimed he played on Unmasked, which obviously wasn't correct.

It seems to me that Trunk feels that Eric "The Fox" Carr was well received by the fans from his concert experience. When in contrast from watching the 2021 Biography Kisstory, it is said in there that the fans were not buying the new characters. Which I didn't "see"nor feel it that way at all in 1980 when Eric joined the band. Just the opposite, he was embraced!!

I was in the first few months of Berklee College of Music when I saw that Eric passed away on TV. As soon as I saw that, I left our room and went to a private bathroom and cried. I didn't want to do that in front of the dudes...

I found out Eric died whilst watching a late night rock show on UK TV. A banner appeared at the bottom of the screen with the news over a picture of Bruce Kulick. A lot of people contacted the show to complain and they issued an apology the following week. I was stunned by the news

Kiss was a "blue collar " band when they played the bar circuit in Detroit, Michigan. Then they started to play the Michigan Palace, they opened for Blue Oyster Cult. Rush opened for Kiss at the Palace 5.00 dollars to get in. Saw Kiss back up Savoy Brown in Frasier, Michigan little league hockey arena. 2 dollars to get in. We met the band before the show. Everyone was nice. Simmons was aloof. Didn't want to talk with anyone. Of course they were street cloths, no makeup. The other three were very cordial. Peter offerd us beer. I declined, never drank then or now. I think it says it all today, when you see Simmons on Fox business news, with a wig made out of brillo pads, painted black, wearing that stupid money hat$

Mike, such a great interview. I felt exactly like you did when Revenge came out. I never felt like KISS did enough or really did anything for Eric for that matter. I got into KISS in 78/79 but Peter was out of the band in no time, and I really got used to Eric. He was fun to watch, and I got to see him live twice. Never thought the HITS tour would be the end of it given how young he was.
