Talk about stamp collecting with Ted the Talking Stamp Collector.
In 1914, the Stickney Rotary Press started a revolution in the production of postage stamps and for almost 50 years was the workhorse of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. It also introduced a new field of collecting for philatelists - the joint line coil pair.

Hi Ted. Benjamin STICKNEY is my great grandfather. My father, Benjamin Delano Stickney along with his sister were on a quest to get their grandfather’s image on a stamp in the mid 1990s when my dad was lost to a sudden and anticipated death at the age of 53. My brother and I were young but I remembered his mission. I’ve recently been thinking of submitting a proposal to the stamp committee to try my luck on opening this conversation again. My dad told me the biggest hurdle at the time was some sort of text short enough to explain who this inventor was. I have many old news paper clippings but was just looking for information online. Thanks for making this video. It makes me smile to know his legacy is not forgotten. S. Stickney

Hi Freya. Nice to meet you. I never see stamps, anymore, where they include any text to say who the person was. However, if they insist on it, I think “Inventor - Rotary Stamp Press” would work.

That was neat, Sir. I hope to see a Benjamin Stickney stamp in the future , why not make it two stamps ? Mr Stickney himself and one of the Stickney press. That would be swell. And could we get them in coil stamps, too?

Thank you for this. Benjamin Stickney is my great grandfather, so it’s really neat to see this explanation of what it is he created 🙂.

As the other viewers commented, this is an obscure area of philately -- so thank you for devoting a video to it.

This was a great vid. Thank you for the work you did to put it out! But I'm not going to lie, I paused it to look up Starbelly Sneetches and then ended up on a Dr. Seuss rabbit hole. Which was also kind of fun. So thanks for that too! 😁👍

Thanks for this insightful video - this area of US philately always confused me. Now it is much clearer. I'd love to get my hands on one of those old stamp vending machines. What a great antique to put on display!

I have quite a few line pairs in my collection. Some can be very pricey as I found out when I was introduced to the collecting area in my hometown stamp club. It goes back to the middle 50's on that subject. But I never went into detail on how they came about. Again thanks for expanding my knowledge of the greatest hobby in the world---STAMP COLLECTING

Great video! How many stamps were printed off the Stickney original rotary? The one that perforated the coils?
