Ep 60 Sailing 'North' in my new boat

I provide a tour of my new boat, an RM 890+ named 'Jenna' after my two daughters. I cast off lines for destinations North, and cross some AIS equipped fishing buoys along the way, before reaching my first intermediate destination of Dingle Ireland.

That seems nuts but there it is. 73 years old and got into wooden sailboats (couple years ago) via coastal sea kayak touring. Dreaming of the open ocean with "quiet excitement". Thank you.

Yeah, I've already forgotten to shift the backstays several times. It is not yet in muscle memory, but I never forgot the landing gear or flaps while flying, so I'm hoping that very soon I'll become comfortable with them.

Ok, my bad. The top of the sail extends aft a meter or so before angling down to the aft end of the boom. This forms a trapezoidal shape that has surprisingly more area than a traditional triangle sail. With all of that extra sail area up high, the sail needs to be managed carefully to avoid being overpowered (and violently heeling the boat over). Well managed, one can sail much faster.
