Many thanks John & Lizzie......very instructive and enlightning. Westward ho! Easterlies for a couple of days. That's a bonus for the west country..... Sorry to have missed you in Falmouth.

Thanks for this Ron, sorry to have missed you too, but the weather was not our friend and we ended up hiding in Falmouth for a day or two. Nice visit to Helford River before departure to the Scilly.

Glad to see you went to the Isles of Scilly! We have sailed there twice now and it's amazing! I would recommend anchoring at Great Bay on St Martin's (if you haven't already), it was one of our favourite anchorages and it's a nice walk up to The Seven Stones Inn 😊

Thank you for this, we stopped between Tresco and Bryher. Had a pint in the new Inn and then headed off for Cork.

Love Scilly been lucky to holiday there a few times. Seems like the passage was a good taster for some bigger stuff to come. Wondering how the boat is working, perhaps the best 5 features that are making the sailing easier

Thanks for this, boat going well. Off the top of my head for short handed the list is - good auto helm, all lines into cockpit, plotter above companionway, self tailing winches and tiller extension. With those everting can be done by one person.

Great to see you really o the way. Remember not to round the Fastnet and return this time!

Thank you for this Nick, have now crossed to Southern Ireland. Thankfully missed going round the Fastnet rock. Interestingly, first time done on a starboard tack.

Passage planning and weather become key issues. Like you when I went east about from Eastbourne all the way round until I got to Falmouth were all knew to me. It becomes more challenging when you are sailing single handed and you are having to press on due to a small weather window. I’ll be interested to see if you still rate the Met office forecasts so highly by the time you are back, I found some of the weather apps much more accurate! Have fun.

Thanks Richard, have been using metoffice.go.uk and met.ie. Was a bit strange being out of inshore waters for a while and took a while to get oriented into the Irish areas. Using windy and xcweather as well as the synoptic charts. Think are right about the weather apps especially when you can get a better idea about the timing of shifts.

@@CoricContessa32 I found XC weather almost always under estimated wind strengths! On the NE coast the fisherman use a Norwegian weather site I can’t remoter the name! Have fun and enjoy. It gets cheaper and more friendly the further north you go!

Have you tried your hand at any astro navigation while on your passages?
@CoricContessa32
@CoricContessa32 Жыл бұрын
Blimey, I don’t think I’ve done any Astro since 1996. Travelling over the green bits of the chart from Saint Mary’s to Tresco was exciting enough.
