Whereby I answer an ad in Linn's Stamp News offering a mixture of 100 foreign stamps for $7, with the possibility of up to $102 in catalogue value.
What did I actually wind up with? Watch the show and find out.

Like or Dislike: Like. Clever idea for a video, and brilliantly executed with the intro and the trip to the mailbox and the sorting etc. It definitely builds up suspense. Nice stamps, too.

I enjoy gambling on bulk stamp purchases. I'm not too concerned about the actual stamps as i get my moneys worth in the fun of sorting and storing. And the odd gem does pop up. I really like your mailbox. Does it double as a wood stove for really small pizza's? 😁

@@tedtalksstampsI collect Latin America (I'm of Salvadoran heritage, born in USA) . If I may suggest a possible topic; Nicolas Seebeck, he's basically the reason most Central American stamps are very low value. I would argue he invented the CTO. At any rate I love your videos, you and Graham Beck are just what our hobby needs. I wish you the best and looking forward to more!!

Ted you can go to the APS monthly, they have additional adds for mixtures. Lets keep this going, 8% of cat is just about right for a good mixture I think. So it is thumbs up on the mixture. I have a friend who does stamp art and I always save the bad ones for her.

Good idea. Thumbing through the physical magazine is also a lot more convenient than reading Linn's digital edition. I'll keep that in mind for my next order.

Good video. I'm particular to colorful, not too small in size and interesting stamps and don't care for antiquity, value, origin or rarity. These package/bulk offerings usually hit a good spot for me however, $7 is a bit too steep for my taste as I've had great luck on ebay with rates of around $3-5ish for about 100 stamps. Cheers!

Back when I was young HE Harris sold grab bags for $1. They always had the same old low value definitives an a few better items which were always damaged. It was to be an unsorted bag. Baloney! Keep in mind that a $1 back in the late 50's and early '60s is about $6-7 in todays money.

At the 4:53 mark you show Mexico #2066. That is a joint issue with US #3203. If you are into joint issues, that was a pretty lucky purchase.

Looks like a good value, 👍 Question, do countries sell single stamps of a particular year as in the past or just sheets because of self stick. John
@tedtalksstamps
@tedtalksstamps 2 жыл бұрын
I have ordered single copies of self-stick stamps, and have seen singles available from websites of some countries such as Austria, Spain, and Faroe Islands, but I don't know the policies of all the countries. You would just have to go to the postal web page of whatever country you're interested in, and see if you can order singles.

Hi Ted or talking ted, what i don't understand is you mentioned Hipstamp, but how many different sellers did you have to look at and how much p&p would that cost in total to purchase them from Hipstamp? Not that i want any of them but because I am curious to know why you compare prices with those stamps on Hipstamp?
@tedtalksstamps
@tedtalksstamps 3 жыл бұрын
It's just a point of reference, a way of gauging the value received in the packet, rather than simply comparing it to imflated catalogue values. You're right, one is not going to find all of the stamps from one dealer, so you would have to figure shipping costs for multiple orders.
