Ep 70: We're (sort of) Back! Diesel engines, Listener Feedback, and Questions.

Very new to this channel; I have only watched a few of your videos and bits and pieces of Podcast videos. Personally I just do not have time to sit and watch a 30-50 minute long video. So I jumped around in this one to try to get the jist of the information presented. I think you have a great video presence, setup, etc. I just think this is a bit too late in history. If the internet, online videos, podcasts were a possibility 30 years ago when the RC hobby was in better health, this would be GREAT! However the hobby just isn't what it was back then. I mean just look at how many glow/gas engine manufacturers there are compared to 30 years ago. An RC podcast going strictly to audio only, not so great. The few bits and pieces of other video podcasts I watched; the video seemed to be the best part. There was more to see and learn. One of the reasons I became disenchanted with hanging out at the flying field years ago, was because I did not want to sit and listen to folks just TALK about stuff. I was there to fly and watch people fly not shoot the bull. So for me a video instructional podcast is best. Perhaps the majority of your audience DOES listen to podcasts. I guess at this based primarily on the number of subscribers to your channel. I would have expected a much larger subscriber base seeing as you have been doing this channel for 5 months even though it sounds like the audio/website has been going on much longer. Why haven't the followers of the website subscribed? Or have they? As I type this I see 151 subscribers. For the quality of information presented, your setup, editing, and overall presentation I am very shocked that you do not have more subscribers. Of course no one ever claimed that RC hobbyists were ever interested in such things as a quality video, sets, presentation, etc. either.... I know I have tried hard to improve the quality of my videos over the course of time and no one really seemed to care. In that light, maybe going to audio only for the podcast does make the most sense. Either way, I think you guys have a great channel and video presence. I think your money, talents, sets, etc. are wasted in this arena. Those are my thoughts.

That's really great feedback! Ron and I always appreciate what our listeners/viewers have to say and often incorporate that into the show. We've certainly learned a lot since launching the channel, and the conclusion we've come to is that there doesn't seem to be a lot of 'crossover' between podcast listeners and KZbin viewers. Not with us anyway. Most of the surveys we get back indicate that the podcast listeners prefer to just listen to us as background noise while working in the shop, driving to work, etc as opposed to watching the podcast on our KZbin channel. As far as wasting our time, I feel that if we've helped at least one newcomer to the hobby, then we've been a success.
