If we all live in a simulated reality, then the simulation is actually real for us. David Chalmers has a great book on this.

there is one HUGE problem in the first movie. it would be impossible for cypher to have a secret meeting with smith, in the matrix.!!!!!

@daviddavids2884 Good point. The Wachoskis have hinted that this scene could be a flashback, way before Neo became a part of the crew. - Anderson

Interesting point, but why impossible? Because it would have been noticed by someone on the Neb? That would imply that the Neb freedom fighters were also involved in police state type monitoring, and that seems anathema to their world view. This does not seem like a plot hole to me...but I could be convinced

Before I saw this at the theater, the trailer I saw showed the bullet time shot and had Morpheus' "No one can be told what the Matrix is" quote. I still had no clue what it was about. My girlfriend at the time saw the poster as we passed the theater and said she wanted to see it. I was so impressed with it that I knew at that moment that I needed to watch this on DVD

@avace917 To this day, for me, The Matrix had one of the most intriguing trailers with the least amount of information. Of course, it more than delivered on the mystery. - Anderson
