I am intrigued, mostly as an engineer and investor. But as a collector, I prefer something more tangible. Anything digital risks being ephemeral.

Very enlightening conversation. Interesting digital art market, but I’m not understanding how this is philately if they can’t be used for postage. Cinderella’s are collectible too, though. And each collector has their own rules.

If the NFT is linked to a postally used postage stamp, I think it falls into the philately category - although not traditional.

I think the problem with collectors embracing NFTs is exactly what Michael and Charles stated - 'I don't really understand this.' I mean, organised philately can't even cope with social media and online exhibiting! You only have a few postal services offering legitimate NFTS that could be classified as philately - the VAST majority of NFTs are really 'digital cinderellas'. It would be interesting to know how many of the 100,000 buyers of Austria's crypto stamps are traditional stamp collectors or just crypto investors.

I would like you to publish the original stamps and the details of the monetary value of the the back if it is a copy or original stamp and facilitate the way in which they can evaluate the price and where to sell them.

Hey guys how about a show discussing this Penny Black coming up for auction at Sotheby's on December 7th that is estimated at $6M. Could it possibly replace the One Cent Magenta as the king of the hill of philately?

It is like instead of collecting Magic cards you collected online versions of the cards without ever owning them but giving you the impression you do own them. It creates a new market with another way to make you spend your cash but this time you only get the goods virtually. It also allows the vendor to sell their merchandise/IP many more times. I don t see any collectors interested in this but only speculators or investors. If you can t hold it in your hand then it does not exist and is not worth trying to collect in my opinion.

Wow, I had to stop this one. I have absolutely no interest in something I can't pick up with tongs, I can't inspect for watermarks, I can't measure perforations, I can't order a random box full of them and search for those coveted stamps missing from my collection. Call it anything you want, don't call it Philately.

Thank you guys for hosting me at your show! I would tend to agree with Peter Bylen below that NFT are not philately - it is a modern extention of traditional philately into the new emerging crypto metaverse! It lacks tactile feelings but it gives utility, it give trading dynamics and it give digital design possibilities. Yet still carrying those traditional philatelic values to young generations.

Its a very fine line between investment and philately with it really just investment with a postage stamp as a front. Still not seeing the stamp collecting community getting on board with this, although the crypto market is happy to dabble.

This appears to be more of yet another way of creating speculative bubbles than philately. Speaking from a collector's point of view, even worse than what East German postal authorities did with the stamps that were never sold at any post office and only made available to certain privileged collectors. ("Sperrwerte")

I don t think he explained to you what NFTs are and how they work in a good way. I feel he made it more confusing. To me anything that is virtual does not have the same value as a tangible asset..same as for the shares of the most expensive stamp you guys bought from SG. You do not own anything tangible, you only have the equivalent of a cell of an excel spreadsheet. Stamps NFTs are not stamps, they are online images. I am not sure I have any interest in owning something that is not tangible. As for blockchain to hold NFTs as images I fail to see the interest. If your internet is down you have nothing to look at.

Exactly, when the power is down, how are you going to enjoy your "virtual" collection. I did buy the UN Crypto stamp BUT the physical one being sold by the UNPA and have left the grey field unscratched. I just find the physical "crypto stamp" an interesting novelty and the production run was under 100,000 which isn't too bad.

Like or Dislike: Like. This is the first video I can remember that got a thumbs down, so I want to go on record with where I stand in reference to it. Initially my reaction upon hearing that the stamps wouldn't be valid for postage was disapproving, but the more I listened the more I shifted to neutral and positive. If there's an #NFT stamp that appeals to me as a souvenir, I could see myself wanting to own it. Is it #philately? Yes and no. It's a product of a postal administration, but it's not a postage stamp.

51:35 "NFTs can make art more accessible to the masses. Art collecting is not something the typical person can partake in. Art collecting in the domain of the rich and elite". - HARD disagree. A relatively small budget on eBay, etsy, etc., can get ANYONE limited edition and unique artworks to hang on their wall, keep in an album, etc., with the thrill of the chase in building up something that fits an individual's taste, not is being spoonfed via the likes of this would-be tulip scheme. Invoking Banksy and those sorts of budgets is... strange.

Wow!!! What the hell did I just watch??? Oh, yea...Non-Fungible Tokens???? Is a unique and non interchangeable digital ledger. NFT's can be used to represent easily reproduceable items such as photo's, video's and other types of digital files as unique items and blockchain technology to establish verified and public proof of ownership . Crypto: Ethereum. Did you get that???? Neither did I. What a bunch of garbage!!! I don't think this is stamp collecting.

Here is how it works. A item is digitized and assigned a number. This becomes a long strings of numbers. These numbers are added into a blockchain i.e a non centralized version of a ledger where multiple people maintain the integrity of the blockchain by stopping people from adding fake transactions. Everybody on the network gets a copy of the blockchain. You buy the item and become the owner and the certificate is added to the blockchain that is now distributed. That s it. A digital item is added to a ledger that can not be manipulated and only one instance of the item exists on the blockchain itself. Did that help?

Stupid thing is, VeVe is currently not linked to any crypto currency - once your USD hits their account, you are locked in a bubble. I mean you can buy in Omi but not convert cash into Omi. They are talking about this but its not functional. Then your USD has to at least break even at the Omi price and hope it holds long term. I am not even sure the VeVe NFT tokens are on the blockchain yet (a complaint I have seen but not investigated).
