Love all of your makes. Both your dresses will be great to have on hand. The Sew Over It dress could still offer a layering option? The Lyra dress will suit of your fabrics. The gingham will look gorgeous in a short sleeve version and the red in a longer sleeve. I find I choke sometimes at telling people I’ve made what I’m wearing. I love the responses and sometimes it’s a conversation stopper. I want to talk about the items but I then realise the person doesn’t sew and I don’t want to bore them. It’s definitely a nice feeling to tell people. I hope we get to see your published makes 😀

Thanks for your idea and view on the Lyra dress. The gingham will look great with the short sleeves I think too, as it is quite light weight. I will see how I go to bring the finished garment back on the vlog. Happy sewing!!

I vote for the solid red for the Lyra dress, hands down, although I love the autumnal fabric, too. Congratulations on the well-deserved compliment by the photographer--Validation! Uhhhhh--could I borrow/steal your pink skirt-and-tie idea. I LOVE that--so clever, and I have a ton of old ties to upcycle. My one time for validation from others about a me-made garment was when I had made a simple jacket out of cotton with the logos and images from the university in my city. I wore it to one of the (American) football games at the school. I received several compliments, including one from a young man who was from the opposing team's university. I guess I am a brash American, because I told everyone who complimented me that I had made it (I really tried to do a good job on it). Even my nephew-in-law liked it, so there you go. Great post, as always.

Hello, thanks for your comment. Yes, go for it (pink skirt with tie embellishment), I have used ties quite a bit in the past.. I put one on a handbag once which looked really cool, but it started to unravel and really made a mess of the bag. IT was so dissappointing because it was a 60th gift for my sister. I had to take it back and try to fix it. I dont think she has ever used it actually. Your jacket that you gto lots of compliments on sounds liek a winner. Well done you! Great video Deb and your dress deserved a pic in a country mag 😍 as for the dress choice, I think not only is there still plenty of sun left for the Betty, but the Betty with a lovely crop or waist length cardi is a gorgeous look. Red does suit you no need to apologise 😉

Love your enthusiasm and cheery personality. I found the Lyra to be very fabric hungry so would definitely go with the red fabric. You are right, red does look great on you!

Yes, i have heard that the Lyra takes alot of fabric, it has such alot of gathering which is putting me off a bit actaully. The red seems the most popular vote/

Hi Deb. loving your vlogs. I found you via Kristen at the Dahlia Sewciety. I'm currently recovering from surgery so have lots of time to watch sewing videos. I too use mostly upcycled, repurposed fabric from opshops. I do this for various reasons as you have mentioned. My initial reason was financial and for confidence. I felt it didn't matter if I messed up that $3.50 doona cover project. Thank you for sharing your zest for life and sewing. Yes you do look amazing in red. Don't apologize for being you, own it! I would like to see the checked seersucker fabric made up into that pretty dress for Fall. We are going into Spring/Summer here so I want to make so shorts. I've been looking for the perfect pattern. I’m late watching, so you may have already started! I think I’d make the Betty and wear a cute traditional cardigan with it now. Then you’ll have that ready when your Spring rolls around, too! You’ll still have time to make the Lyra in time for the long sleeve weather…

HI Elaine, great idea re the Betty dress and certainly I have those good intentions. You know how life gets busy and just cant get into that sewing room? well, that has been me for the last few weeks, so its at a bit of a standstill. But I am chomping at the bit to get it done!! maybe this week I will do a late nighter and just do it!! Happy sewing

thanks for your lovely newsy video :) I also love vintage style and fit and flare dresses. I go to to vintage fairs and markets wearing my homemade garments. Recently I got many compliments on a summer dress that I made by hacking several patterns together and drafting my own wide collar. The other garment I've had compliments on is a 1950s style coat, which I lined. I've had people ask where I bought it! Love telling them that I made it myself! :) PS. I vote the solid red linen for the long-sleeved Lyra

thanks for taking the time to comment. sounds like you have similar style to me when it comes to the fit n flare dresses. you may have noticed that I do wear other styles as well, but when it is hot, I tend to go the fnf. Your coat sounds lovely and good on you for owning it, that you made it and taking the compliment with grace. Hmm I am thinking on the red linen for the lyra long sleeve too, thanks for your vote. I agree with an other comment that the checkered fabric would be nice as a short sleeved Lyra. It has been hot here the past two days but regardless I made a jersey lounge wear set and 2 long sleeved, full length flannel nighties for the cold weather that's coming. I have a matching fleece poncho-ey thing to wear on top to cut out next, then I'll be making a couple of sleeveless cotton dresses (!) just because I want to 😃 . Sew what you feel like making. There are still going to be a couple of warm days ahead and if not, the dress will be ready for next spring. I've always avoided Sew Over It patterns. I don't know why really as many have a vintage feel which I do like. Something about the company just doesn't appeal to me. I watched a couple of their videos and the vibe just felt off. They seem to work for you though.

Hi Sandra, thanks for your comment. Sounds like you have alot of sewing plans ahead which will keep you busy. Those warm flannel nighties sound cosy! Re the Sew Over It patterns, I only have 2 of them which I got ages ago and seem to hae gravitated more the Tilly n t Buttons since then. I swap and change alot. Sometimes it just depends on my mood! Happy Sewing!

Hi from NZ - I'd like to see the Lyra in the check fabric but I agree with you that you won't have enough. So you'll have to be creative with the skirt and maybe not do the flounce. As you say the drape of the red is not right for that pattern. Heather x

Hi Heather, I tend to agree with you and I think that is what I will end up doing, not having a flounce, just gathering at the waist - and make it knee length. It should work out, but will need to be short sleeved. It should look nice. Happy sewing!

I quite often use the hashtag #handmadenothomemade because there is such a snobbery about 'homemade' being 'less than' yet 'handmade' or 'boutique' being more 'elite'. It's a bit silly. Do you know if you made it into the Farm Weekly? I'll have to get our subscription copy off my mother in law and have a nosey :)
