[Ep 9] Flotilla on the Clyde, sailing around Cumbrae, west coast of Scotland and ditching the drone!

A beautiful day sailing around Cumbrae in the Clyde on the west coast of Scotland from Largs on Sula, a Hanse 385. We managed to get some nice drone footage of the SCS Flotilla going from Kip around Cumbrae to Holy Loch.
We anchored at Millport for a swim and returned back to Largs for dinner.

Great video! I especially like hearing/seeing the not so perfect moments like the leaking sink, faulty anchor controller and lost drone story. I wonder if thats the same drone I flew into a tomato cage here years ago ha....

Love this channel. My brother and i hope to take our Competent Crew and Day Skipper this year. Would love to see a video hearing your sailing story; which school. how you built up hours, how long till you decided to buy your own boat.

Thanks Matthew. That sounds like a great plan! I had done the RYA dinghy & keelboat courses quite a few years ago and then more recently did the day skipper & coastal skipper. I also did a trip to St Kilda. So in all maybe about 4 weeks of sailing total before we bought the boat. Good luck with the courses 😊

Ouch! That looks sore. Did exactly the same myself when catching my drone. Didn’t even know I’d cut my finger til I saw blood all over cockpit!

Great film again, guys! I’ve recently got a new drone - Mavic Air 2 - for using on the boat. I was worried about losing it, so bought a float kit. Makes it look like a seaplane. I haven’t tried it out yet, but main concern might be the windage on the unit - the floats are quite big!. Even if it lands upside down, killing the drone, at least the memory card might be saved.

Thanks Jim. We also have the Mavic Air 2 and found we needed to turn the sensors off to get it back to the boat otherwise it was not liking all the rigging. otherwise you have to fly it in sideways. Float sounds a good idea too!
