Lovely! Many memories as a very young lad travelling on the buses, running up the stairs to cram into the front row with my pals! 🤣. I cant be sure but I'm fairly certain this was the model of bus that used to take me and my Pals from Crayford to Bexleyheath back in the mid seventies, the old seat cover fabric gave it away! 🤣. Four pence was the fare if I recall rightly. Nice job!

Park Royal used grey rexine on the early DMS then switched to Formica ,used to get slashed by idiots ,on the refurbished RMLs I drove at S they had moquette which after a while came adrift ,keep at it reminds me of happier times on a No73 with my Nan going to Oxford street from Hammersmith c1969 I would sit at the front so I could pretend I was driving the hand rail was my driving thingy ma Bob 😊nice work ,Mark ,ex LT driver

Hi Guys, That looked like a total pain in the inner sanctum of one's posterior to me....a real pain right up, if you catch my drift!🤪 Looking forwards to seeing part 2 of the rexine story....and the out-takes too, I bet there was loads of four letter words used!! 👍👍 Great production quality again too, someone knows what their doing with video cameras, perhaps more than recovering a RMs inner panels....😂

I think what you need is a plastic caulking blade & get 3 of you to hold it off from the bottom then smooth starting at the top from left to right, gradually working your way down getting rid of bubbles as you go, without pressing too hard. I use the same technique when wallpapering. If you use your hand you can overstretch it.

I'm a perfectionist too, but would allow for some slight imperfections such as you speak of with the Rexine application. On camera it looked very good indeed, close inspection you may see the imperfections but if it's clean and straight with small bumps, I thinkI would accept it. In the main the vehicle is coming along nicely and it's one great british icon, great job. Original Routemasters all had slight differences from one to another. I've been travelling on them since late '60s, as well as RTs and RFs SMS' etc.

Another really good video… what an awkward job reapplying the rexine is turning out to be… but you are really getting to grips with the technique… I am sure the end result will be stunning !

Good job! The roller suggestion below is excellent, but maybe you would need to dilute slightly with the appropriate solvent. The finish obtained by doing it in vertical strips was probably the best they ever got at Park Royal. Doing it in one piece but applying in hoizontal 1m long sections is an alternative, but prone to more alignmemt problems.
@davidvivian5963 жыл бұрын
Dave (@17:59) that Rexine looks pretty good to me - and I've got OCD. I think you should consider keeping it then see what it looks like once the seats are back in.
@allenwilliams13063 жыл бұрын
My guess as to how they did the long runs initially was to use a more-liquid contact adhesive and have a whole team of chaps applying the material to the wall simultaneously when it had gone touch dry. They weren't too bothered about doing it perfectly, either.

Well, I know where RM1214 used to reside so now I’m trying to figure out who could have mushed the oil pickup 🤨. I do like a nice bit of fresh Rexine mind.
@Routemaster4Hire3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, if you are referring to when the bus was in Yorkshire then you'd be pointing the finger at the wrong people as the bus was well looked after and maintained there. The oil pickup was mushed when the bus briefly lived in the London area after it left Yorkshire.

you should thin the glue, and put it on from left to right and not vertical, that way you glue as you go and no lines and no drying glue.

Why do you have. To push the bottom twice ?
