Hi buddy, great episode, when I modded my 200 I fitted a 30mm dellorto that worked nicely and gave a good induction roar. Also fitted a new Ancillotti silencer on mine, both from Broadstairs scooter spares, (in 1970)….

Put the head in the lathe and make a groove in it for a viton (het resistant rubber) ring inside of it. Here in the Netherlands a lot of people do that for 2-strokes, works like a charm!

MB Scooters cooling fin head gasket, awesome large gasket and best sealant I used is permatex.

Good stuff! I've been there too with a leaky head, dodgy clutch and a leaky carb recently! All worth the work though 👍

@@CobwebGarage it's good content though, and you know the engine a bit better now too. It's hard to do something different and unique in the scootering scene but I think you've done just that

If you still get a leaky head you can try repeat the same sanding process with the top of the barrel....or get the head machined so you can run the gasket

Blue hylomar is petrol resistant, very good, I use permatex Indian too, but not on the same job.

ive fallen out of love with scootering abit , not the same anymore , getting old i suppose. got an Li with a jb tuning 225 in it , a vesp 50 special, with a 135 malossi, and my fav at mo a scomadi with a pm tuning 205 stage 6 . man its quick . but just not the same feel in it anymore . id much rather admire the effort the guys put into the bikes that riding now . just me tho .

Did you check shim on kickstart leg (shim between the seal and kickstart)? Play will cause it to rub against top of clutch... probably a bit late with that but worth a mention.

Hi Stuart. There was a little play in the kickstart, and I wanted to check the shim(s), but I was a little afraid of opening a ‘can of worms’. And not having any shim(s) to hand (if it needed them), combined with wanting to get it back together to take to Sand Bay Scooter Rally, I ignored the shim situation. 🤣 But thanks for the advice and comment, much appreciated!

Did you replace the Drive Chain Upper Guide / Adjuster when you had the Side Casing to replace the clutch? The Drive Chain looked past its best, so may need changing👍

Ouch! I'm sorry lad, I know these days it's the fashion to knock everything people do because it's easy to do so, but if you are putting yourself out there as a teacher you should make an effort to get it right, just adout everything you did there was wrong. You gave the impression that blue hylomar is a sealant - - it's a marking agent not a sealant, shows high /low spots on a surface, when I was an apprentice 100 years ago, one of the first tests they gave us to see if we made the grade was to stand at a workbench for up to 2 weeks with a piece of steel 2" x 2" working it by hand on a precision flat plate (not an old desktop, best thing you could have used would have been a piece of glass) and using hand scrapers to produce an even pattern all over to within 1 - 2 thousands of an inch, if you didn't go crazy by then you had a chance of making it as an engineer, you didn't say what grade of wet and dry paper to use, I could see someone cutting corners and using course stuff doing more damage than good and it you took enough off the head the packer plates not gaskets as you said would have put the head right again. It would have been more instructional to show how the clutch was fitted than speeding through it as you did. Fitting a bigger carb and inlet is OK but if you don't match the inlet port in the motor you have created a bottle neck in the system and won't get the best results, that's an engine out and strip down again job (I'm faced with having to do that myself at the moment and not looking forward to it). It's now official I have become a winging old git.
