“If I Fell”, in my opinion, has some of the most beautiful harmonies ever recorded! It’s just exquisite. Definitely a favorite of mine. I’m so happy that you appreciate the song for the same reasons as I do. “I’m Happy Just to Dance With You” is pleasant with George’s innocent pleas. “And I Love Her” was the “A” side of the single with “If I Fell” on the flip side. My brother actually bought the record and used his ownership to torture me as he knew how mesmerized I was by “If I Fell”! It’s comical now but at the time it was a serious cause for angst. At age 11 I was quite absorbed in the emotional aspect of Beatlemania. Good times.🌺✌️

Paul credited George for his major role in "And I Love Her", since he was responsible for coming up with and playing the guitar riff that really defines the sound of the song .. But when it comes to Paul McCartney ballads, my clear favourite is the wonderful "Here, There and Everywhere" from the "Revolver" album .. A real treat in store for you there, Luke !

But for some reason, back in those days, contributions of key riffs and other noteworthy musical themes by band members were often not specifically attributed to them in the official songwriting credits .. Doesn't seem fair, when it was often those bits of the songs that made them memorable and successful.

When I was 7, my mum took me and my younger brother to see 'A Hard Day's Night' at the pictures. In my head I can still see Paul McCartney's face (in black and white) on the big screen, singing "Bright are the stars that shine, dark is the night", during 'And I Love Her'. Wow! That was the moment I fell in love with Paul McCartney 😍. Although The Beatles have released loads of great songs - for sentimental (and greatness) reasons - And I Love Her will always be my favourite Beatles 'song.

@dawndriscoll3344 Same with me, I was 17 when "A Hard Day's Night" was released to the movie theaters. My girlfriends and I went to the "premier" showing of it in select theaters around our city, which gave you a large souvenir ticket to keep (I STILL have it) I thought I was already "in love" with Paul, but seeing him PERFORM "And I Love Her" in the movie, PLUS it was such a BEAUTIFUL song, in THAT moment, I feel even more "in love" with Paul. It STILL IS my favorite Beatles' song, especially among the ballad love songs. It was also the ONLY time that the packed theater of us mostly teenage girls were quiet during the movie. No one was screaming....just staring up at that huge screen watching Paul sing it. I also LOVED how they had the Beatles arranged on the stage. I have always thought that a still of that would have made a beautiful poster. By the way, that wasn't the ONLY time we saw it in the theater. We used to go for the first showing and then sit through ALL the showings through the last one of the night. We did that a LOT while the movie stayed in the theaters. You could DO that back then. Over the last 59 years I have probably watched "A Hard Day's Night" and "Help!" hundreds and hundreds of times, I WISH I had kept count! I can say the entire script along with the movie! Been able to do that since I was 20 years old! LOL!!

I remember going to see “A Hard Day’s Night” at the movies. It was the first time the theater had to put out velvet ropes to create rows to accommodate the hundreds of kids that came to see the film.

@patticrichton1135 Me too! I know all the words in a Hard Day's Night and Help. My dad bought me a reel-to-reel recorder for my 13th birthday (in the days before videos!). They showed A Hard Day's Night on the tv here and I held a microphone up to the tv to record it, for the whole time (also threatening my brother and sister to keep quiet, which of course they didn't!) Anyway I played the recording back so many times, I learnt all the words 😅

i just finished a project, i call it the compleat beatles remake.i replaced all the pictures and videos in it.i gave this old documentary some much needed updating in quality and footage.only thing i didnt replace were the george martin interviews and the audio commentary, which are essential to the documentary.

on the movie a hard days night, i added crowd noises to the club scenes when ringo is dancing. because it always bothered me that you just hear music and no people talking or making noise in the club. i also fixed the slow speed issue on all the songs in the movie, because as im sure all of you know, the songs in the movie are all much slower than the official releases.

Now you can see why we all fell for the Beatles back in 1964 when they first came to America! I was 10 years old when I saw them on the news, stepping off the plane in New York! I didn't know who those funny looking but cute guys were! But I soon found out when I saw them on the Ed Sullivqn show and in the following months and years! It wasn't just about their haircuts, their cuteness, or their fame. For me, it was their music! So much talent displayed in so many different kinds of music. From beginning to end, every song is polished, captivating, and unique! That's why they're still so popular even to this day!

"AND I LOVE HER" was written for Jane Asher, who was Paul's girlfriend from 1963 - 1968, they were actually engaged on Christmas Day in 1967. I LOVE "And I Love Her." As a 17 year old girl in 1964 when the Beatles first movie "A HARD DAY'S NIGHT" was released, the love I felt for McCartney, "deepened" when I saw Paul perform it IN the movie. (I HOPE you will react to the movie some day. You will be able to SEE the Beatles PERFORM all 3 of these songs, along with "I Should Have Known Better," "Tell Me Why," and "She Loves You" plus you will get a better idea of their personalities). To this day, "AND I LOVE HER" is my FAVORITE Beatles love ballad, especially written mostly by Paul. It had me in tears the first time listening to it in the movie theater, it is just so BEAUTIFUL. Since then I have probably watched "A Hard Day's Night" and their second movie "HELP!" hundreds of times over the last 59 years. I NEVER tire of either movie, and have been able to recite the entire script along with the film. LOL! (and believe me, I am NOT the only fan that can do that! ) AGAIN, LOVE your analysis of these amazing songs by the Beatles, LUKE.......just as I did waiting for their next singles and albums to be released!

If you listen closely to the last time they sing the lyric "love was in vain," you can hear Paul laughing and dropping the last syllable. On "And I Love Her," George came up with the 4-note classical guitar figure, & Paul felt it was just what the song needed. In the movie, you can see George shift from the figure to the background upper range arpeggios and back again.

As you mentioned in "And I Love Her", the guitar really adds to the vocals. Such a beautiful song. One of my favorites. I love all the songs on this album. " If I Fell" is a great song. Nice job! Three great songs. Great writing, great arrangements, great performances. I grew up with this stuff and it's wonderful to see "the youths" getting into it. If I Fell: the intro is really unusual. Harmonically disorienting, and it's in a different key (half-step lower) than the rest of the song. Also: it seems they've grown tired of "I Want To Hold Your Hand"! Two songs in a row: John says, love is more than just holding hands; and George says he doesn't want to hold her hand....

This album was at the peak of Beatlemania, and imo these 3 songs can be relatable to its context in a way. People talk about it as if they were just fans but it was more than that. It was a new phenomenon, to the world of music or any art form. Before, only Elvis came the closest, probably. It was way beyond their music! Or even the romantic lyrics. It was a new way of being, of dancing too, a sort of freedom of expression that girls didn't have before, and which implied having a favourite Beatle. Most of them, at least, would call themselves devoted to either John, Paul, George or Ringo. In that sense, it soon became obvious that showcasing their different skills and personalities would foster the mania and the business. They were constantly playing live and at the same time outputting singles and albums in record time. And they had a band image to keep. If you have the opportunity, have a look at the film "A Hard Day's Night". You'll have a better idea. But this is also noticeable in any footage of the live shows, in which you can easily catch both Paul and John flirting with the audience in distinct ways, while George just timidly smiles, and Ringo is back there in the drums seemingly aloof or being goofy. There is an enormous complicity among them, though. These three songs are, in a way, a perfect context of that era: - "If I Fell", (a long-time personal favourite), a gem of harmonies, highlighting both John and Paul's voices, but with that distinctive Lennon "darker" feeling to it; - "I'm Happy Just to Dance with You", a unique opportunity to hear the shy Beatle, to show off George, and at the same time for Paul and John to have a bit of a rest in their singing; - "And I Love Her", the memorable classic with which McCartney impressed himself and the world. Each of them the perfect timing for the John-George-Paul maniacs to scream each of their names louder, pull their own hairs, and go into full hysteria. And for Ringo girls to come up with some crazier to make themselves noticed. I'm really enjoying your Beatles journey! i love your comments, can't wait for more!!

Actually, both "Do You Want To Know A Secret" and "I'm Happy Just To Dance With You" are credited 100% written by John for George. Between 63 and 64 all songs sung by George that weren't cover's were written by John for George to sing. John looked out for George. Paul, not so much. On this Lp John wrote Ten of the thirteen tracks. Get used to that, John was the dominant songwriter all the way through "Rubber Soul". It wasn't until their "Revolver" Lp in 66 that Paul caught up to John and he never looked back after that. One more note here, "If I Fell" is 100% a John written song. Peace ❤

"And I Love Her" is still pretty much my favorite ballad by the Beatles to this day. I went and saw the remastered "A Hard Days Night" movie when they released it in select theaters back in 2000. It was a magical experience watching it on the big screen. And their performance of this song was the highlight for me!

Lots of your contemporaries like to say the Beatles are ‘mid’ which generally means they never really explored their catalog.😬They’re so good. Early on I sometimes had trouble distinguishing John and George’s vocals but in time, I caught on.🤓George came up with that guitar riff in And I Love Her which adds so much to the song. It has a Spanish guitar sound to it because George was an admirer of the classical Spanish guitarist, Segovia. These Three songs are my favorite from this underrated album, and your analysis is phenomenal! Yes, they are all gorgeous songs. If I Fell, oh my god, the harmony! It’s one of my favorite Beatles songs. I always look forward to Paul’s voice cracking in the end. Just to Dance with You- George sings it with this youthful gentlemanly charm. And I, too, think this a perfect song for couples ballroom dancing. And I Love Her is easily in my top ten. So surprised that it wasn’t one of their biggest hits, it seems to a favorite for a lot Beatles fans. Paul’s vocals is just so beautiful. The man knows how to ballad. Also, major props to George for the wonderful guitar riff(?). I’ve listened and enjoyed these songs for decades, but watching your reaction had me more impressed with these songs, if that’s possible. John Lennon said of "If I Fell" was his attempt to "re-write" his spong "This Boy". I suggest you listen to it; the harmonies are incredible. There are videos of them doing it live and I highly recommend you listen/view one. In addition to being great in the studio, The Beatles were truly a great great live band. I know because I heard/saw them in Shea Stadium in 1966 - and I could hear every word.

What is so great about "And I Love Her" is that it showcases how at the peak of Beatlemania, all 4 were contributing valuable additions to all the songs, no matter who wrote them or sang lead on them. Paul McCartney has said that the guitar intro that George Harrison made up, makes the song. And he's not wrong. For the rest of your life your ears are going to perk up when you hear those opening notes; you will smile, your eyes may close, your body will start swaying to the rhythm and you will be transported for 2 and a half minutes. I first heard this song 59 years ago and even now I cannot pass by a video of someone reacting to it on KZbin 🎶🌠💕

I have always preferred if I fell over and I love her. However, there is a version of and I love her that is superb! It is only found on the mono version of the united artists’ hard day’s night soundtrack, and the mono version of something new. It features Paul’s mostly non double tracked vocal, giving the song a much more intimate feel. Worth seeking out!

I promised you the link of the full movie but as it was expected YT blocked it, so I will find another way to send it to you. About these three songs I love all them, and even if it seems repetitive those early albums have very innocent and romantic songs, something the world lost long time ago. Old times that won't come back 🙁
