Really intriguing episode. Grew up in a Christian household and have largely been Christian for 70% of my life. Not religious anymore due to personal beliefs & reasons but I still do believe in a God. One thing that I’ve always pondered on is people praying for things but not putting the action behind it. I believe that God won’t help you if you do not help yourself. Like you said I believe we all have the framework and infrastructure to achieve what we will for. The difference between those who have it and those who don’t is purely they’ve gone out to get it and not left it to just chance. This ties in heavily to metaphysical and spiritual stuff especially manifesting so it’s intriguing. Either way, good episode. Glad to see more solo stuff. Keep it up!

incredibly similar background to you bro - and 100% agreed on helping yourself. why would one deserve divine assistance when they are not already tirelessly pursuing what they are praying for? everything has been provided, the rest, as you say is completely up to us.

Islamically we’re not supposed to say in sha Allah after a dua (prayer/supplication) there’s a Hadith which says “when one of you calls upon Allah, let him be determined in the supplication and he should not say, “oh Allah, give me if You will”, for there is no one to coerce Allah”. in sha Allah should be used when talking about future hopes, plans and promises. Alsoooo there’s another Hadith which says “tie your camel and trust in Allah”. Which essentially says that yes we should ask God for things e.g, a new job and put trust in Him but you cannot expect to get it if you don’t tie your camel e.g., prep for the interview and put in the work and use the resources God has already given you. Which is kinda what you were saying too!

should’ve consulted you prior lol. that’s interesting - i would never have thought that it is not meant to be said, based on conversations i’ve had where in sha Allah is used - truly doubt anyone was aiming for coercion, more so just a display of understanding that all is in God’s hands. regardless, i do still get the Hadith’s intended meaning! 100% agreed though on the second Hadith, can’t ask and not put in effort yourself. didn’t tap into that as much as perhaps i could’ve, one lives & one learns eh! an evolving perspective

@ no you can say it! i’m trying to say that it’s just not used when you’re directly asking God for something. you can use it when speaking to people about future hopes, plans and promises :)
