Yes, things are pretty different in Singapore since it's land scarce. After 15 years, the government might ask for the remains to be exhumed so as to make space for uses they deem fit.

For Muslims it is compulsory for the deceased to be land buried. Due to land scarcity, after 15 years remains are exhumed & recycles for new burial. & re-buried in a new plot with 7 other remains.

@@jamesngjhjames384 it depends on your tradition, believe and circumstances. I've witnessed a lot of tombs have been abandoned by relatives. No body wants to take care of anymore. It's not practical. My relatives' tombs have been exhumed because of govt projects. Unless if your religion mandates land burial.That's different story.

@@jamesngjhjames384 Chinese custom doesn't mandate land burial. In China, the govt even recommends sea burial instead of burial or columbarium. I have been living in different countries with significant of ethnic Chinese. Sea burial is very common among Chinese community now.

I was under the impression that cremation was carried out immediately in Singapore ground burial just not allowed.

Having it “one level” is quite wasteful, why not have different levels, and better yet make it like those bicycle or car parking where everything below ground is automated. If needed, a living family member will enter a “coffin number” and the coffin will be automatically brought up for paying respects and then down back into the abyss they go when done. By building it vertically we will then be able to handle so much more volume (since land is limited)!

Singapore- land limited and l noticed that Singapore has to use n develop Intelligently n efficiently. In Malaysia,there is alot of land,we don't have the brainpower on how to study,plan,develop,usage of land effectively/efficiently.We have to wait for a Malaysian lee kuan Yew/Deng Siau Pin to come. Cremation is better,scatter the ashes in the sea etc.

In fact, funeral directors like us were invited for the pre launch so as to allow feedback to be gathered and to improve on any processes if needed! So... you can be rest assured that the ash scattering will be made available to the public in time to come :)

In Singapore, you have to have a coffin to be cremated. In other countries, it might be different.

Please don't do sea burial for our loved one. Heard too many cases of the deceased appearing in dream , telling their families that they felt very cold and wet. The descendants of those who went through sea burial also tend to have rheumatism.

Sim Thiam. No such things. Be careful with the dream. We don't anyhow believe it even in regards to death people. Satan may use dream to deceive people. Even if you burry them on the land, it will mix with with soil and water too. Most of people in my community are buried at the sea. No problems at all. Their families/desendendants are blessed. We believe that their souls are in God's presence. We can just remember them by scattering flower petals at the sea on Qing Ming or other occasions. Some family members don't like visiting columbarium or cemetery. As such, none of next of kins come to visit.

@@simthiam3712 Bible is guidance for faith, moral and ethics. The Bible story is in the context of Jewish culture. According to Jewish death tradition, death body is buried in simple white shrouds, no coffin, burrial must be within 24 hours. The burial in the Bible story is even in the cave. Do we follow those traditions as Chinese, Christian or Modern funeral? Of course not. Funeral or burial is only local tradition. There is no text in the Bible that we have to follow one way or others. Burial doesn't affect our eternity/salvation in our Christian belief.If you have other belief or tradition , it's different story. We respect other religions or faith.

Please give your loved one a proper burial, either land burial or cremation. Our loved one worked hard for us, they loved us and cared for us. Please give them a place to rest in peace. If it's a cremation, do not scatter their ashes into the sea or under a tree, but instead put their ashes into the urn.
