In this episode we trade the tall ponderosa pines of the Oregon High Desert for wide open spaces on a dried up lake bed in the middle of the Alvord Desert. However, a turn in the weather has us seeking shelter elsewhere and boy did we hit the hot spring jackpot in this one. We found what is perhaps our FAVORITE free campsite to date, complete with our own hot spring. You won't want to miss this one!

Oregon is definitely a unique state. So diverse in its landscape. I am amazed at this wonderful country we live in. That is a good question. I am not living on the road like you all, but I have traveled to many places and have seen some beautiful sights. Getting out into nature definitely kind of centers you with creation, and I struggle with the fact that I have saddled my self with the American dream and the home that we strive for. I think for me and my wife we will always be home bodies, because of our kids and grandkids. But our love for nature will always be calling for some sort of adventure.

I would say that both Kirt and I are self-proclaimed homebodies as well. We're def more introverted than extroverted, however...it's nice to connect with people on a deeper level and have stimulating conversations- even more so under a full moon in a natural hot spring! haha. It's funny, someone recently said to us "it seems like you guys are running away from the American Dream" and that made me ponder again...are we? I don't know, maybe this is the new American Dream? No debt, no strings, freedom... I don't know. I do know this- we're grateful for each day we get to explore this amazing land. It's not always pretty/fun/exciting/glamours but to us- it works. We don't see giving this lifestyle up anytime soon, Lord willing. Thanks for your comment, blessings to you!

Enjoy this season of your family. It will change eventually. I've truly found a lot of these channels are narcissistic but having you children with you keeps you grounded. We homeschooled our kids and had a special needs son too. Teaching our kids to serve others was one of the greatest inpartations we could give them to grow humbly through life. Self-centered people are so skin deep.

That's a very good point to make about serving others. Thanks for your insight, and kudos to you guys for seeing through the BS ;) Holding onto these moments & having something to remember the by is important to us- really that's how this channel started! Blessings to your family

I love how you seek out the hot springs. So many in Oregon too. Nomads connecting with nomads - I had similar experiences when I rode my bike across the USA. Looking forward to the time when I can hit the road in a van. Love your videos! keep up the good work.

What an experience I bet that was! Apparently it's more common than we thought, kudos to you- what an accomplishment! Appreciate your kind words. As for the hot springs- yes they are essential to our travels, haha :) always on the lookout! Be sure to tune in this coming Sunday... may be some more of those healing waters in store (wink wink)

WOW! thanks so much for another great share and video! You are right, as I see the home as a stressful chore at times with 3 generations of us living together.... and the road seems to call for solitude and grounding... All the BEST to you and family! Cheers! :) Safe travels wherever you go!

Wow, 3 generations? That's quite the household. I can imagine the chores start to add up. Yes, the open road and solitude of nature is good for our souls. Appreciate your comments Marty, thank you! Blessings to you and your family.

That hot spring is certiainly one of my favorite as well. If you have the camp/soak to yourself it's easy to skinny dip as once you see or hear a vehicle coming down the gravel road, you have at least 10-15 minutes before they pull in. We explored further past that hot spring and got way back into the outback and found a few old late 1800's homesteads.

How cool, that would be neat- we just stopped there, thought we found the pot of gold and didn't think it could get any better haha! As for soaking nude...you'd be surprised, lol. All kinds of people we've come across, but the cool thing is- at least from our perspective- there's no judgement. Clothing or not...it all goes!

Question, what u use for schooling the children? Would be a really interesting video!
@OverlandUncharted

We employ a mixture of things! It's not very rigid, mostly child-interest driven and wildschooling. We have an e-curriculum for the older son but found even it to be too structured, if that makes sense. So we use bits and pieces of many different things. We've thought about putting a video together on that topic! Thanks for the suggestion.

Curious when this jaunt took place. My wife and I spent July and August in the SE Oregon desert in many of the same locations as you. When you left the Alvord playa via Frog Springs Rd, did you know that there is a natural spring kindof behind that blue dumpster? You can drive around the other side and walk back into the tall grass/weeds and collect fresh spring water to fill your tanks with. You'll need a bucket or something low enough to allow the spring to flow into, then pour into your rig.
@OverlandUncharted
@OverlandUncharted 2 жыл бұрын
We were there mid-late Sep. No- we didn't know there was another spring behind the dumpster! Is it another hot spring or just a natural spring to get water from? It's such a unique place, but man I wouldn't want to get stuck out there in a rain storm. Might be there for a few days...
@insaynbcr
@insaynbcr 2 жыл бұрын
@@OverlandUncharted The spring is just a cool water spring flowing out of a pipe that was installed many years ago to aide users of collecting the water. The lake bed can be difficult to get off of if it rains a lot and turns the surface into a mud slick.

Thanks for watching! We kept a healthy distance and weren't disrespectful to the waters or land. As always, leave no trace means leaving the place better than you found it. We always try our best to be mindful of this.
