Thank you BRS for this great series. You are an amazing example of a 21st century retailer that goes deep to support its customers. I really enjoy BRS’s values of openness and sharing. Congratulations on another successful reefing series! Can’t wait to see what’s next! Bravo!

I cannot overstate how much I love these videos. One year ago I walked into my LFS, and being a young lad that only had experience with freshwater, I asked "why would anyone want corals? Isn't it all about the fish?" Now I've had my LPS + softie 25gal reef tank for almost a year and loving every minute of it. I learned SO MUCH from this channel. Cheers!

I was wondering this as well. I would love to move to a hybrid method, which means removing sand slowly. However, I have some fish that I'm not sure would be happy without sand. I'm uncertain if they 100% need sand to be happy. They all eat frozen food and there are plenty of hiding spots beyond the sand bed.

I was away from my tank for six months due to a military deployment and came back not to long ago to a disaster so I decided to start my own you tube channel to share my experience. I will be using some of the methods of the hybrid system and would love for you guys to check out my first video and let me know if you have some advice for my journey to recovery my reef tank. @99benjohns995 жыл бұрын
@@BRStv thanks for answering. Do you think you could go the other way and do a large refugium and no skimmer? Im hoping to start a saltwater aquarium next year, I like the idea of not having a skimmer because there is one less thing to worry about and the benefits of having a refugium with copepods interest me.

Can you do a video on how to use Tropic Marin Part C ? How to scale down to smaller tanks.
@skzion25 жыл бұрын
Another fantastic video. I first got into reef aquariums 10 years ago. My God, knowledge has gone up exponentially! I do have a serious doubt about the bare bottom approach. A shallow, coarse sand bed is not necessarily a kitty litter. There should be detrivores that process the waste. Is soil a kitty litter too? Indo-Pacific Sea Farms sells such deyrivores. Iteems to me that the Tang Gang actually produces a lot of this waste. Why not use snails? They have much less waste.

What’s the process to cycle rock in a horse trough? Heated ?salt water? Flow? Water change or no? Light? Feeding? Bacteria addition?
@BRStv4 жыл бұрын
Cycling rock in a trough vs tank is really no different. Just a different storage vessel. To that end, heated saltwater is usually used. Some sort of water movement is recommended. You can kick start the cycle by adding in bacteria, but that's not 100% necessary. To help "feed" this bacteria, you can ghost feed or simply use an ammonia additive like the one from Dr. Tim's.

How times have changed, the $$$ on lighting now has become the backbone of profit for LFS and manufactures. Halides are dirt cheap, even when running costs are factored in. And yes leds are cheaper over say a ten year period, but the vast majority of reefers will be out of the hobby before then. If your new, halides are set forget on results. But dam some of these tanks are rocking 5 grand of led lights! Deep pockets are needed for big led tanks. Don't get me wrong if I has the $$$$ I'd happily take 10 G4s :) for me it's halide led hybrid :)

@BRStv2 жыл бұрын
The thing is, we can't test for everything. Not even ICP testing tests for everything. There could be pollutants in the water building up over time that water changes can help solve. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jH3SXmephtd8m9U

I cannot afford to pour the megabucks into my system that seem to be necessary to keep these finicky things alive. Hell, I can't even keep calulerpa alive.
