I learned this kata as a brown belt, not exact but roughly 80% techniques are same and in same sequence. Wish i had this video at the the time. Excellent subtle execution of movements

My Black Belt testing Kata. Had to stop doing it due to damaged right knee. Why I stop doing Gangaku as well. In 2020 got a new knee. But in the time span of 15 years I lost so much flexibility and strength. Start doing Tekki series to strengthen lower body. Was very week. Then I started doing a kata a month 3 times a week. Starting with Heian Series to Tekki. This year first year doing Kangku Dai. Started in September this year. This is my Spiritual Kata. There just something very mystical about this kata. 1. It will kick your ass. I can only do it 5 to 6 tines in a row. But getting stronger. Will finish the year working on it. Start all over again 2024. But next year will add Gangaku. Ous.

Naka Sensei pretty good for sure however, the high grade students...well; if you are too old and out of shape or if you do not have enough technique (do not know why with such grades) or if you have a damaged body or if you do not have enough flexibility you NEED spirit; after all martial arts is that but I do not see any in these high grade guys.

You absolutely do not need to know Kanku Dai in order to attain a shodan in the JKA.
