FJ, yes radiation from glowstick will kill germs. It's one of the awesome things about glowstick dupes! I play with all glowstick dupes (map name "Glowtown"), and I don't even need working sinks for my bathrooms because the dupes quickly destroy any germs on themselves. Glowstick dupes also have a permanent "lit workspace" boost, and they automatically don't care about light when sleeping. You may have to double check that your glowstick dupe doesn't give himself radiation sickness - you can give him an extra bathroom session midday so he "removes" more radiation.
@Lightman0359 Жыл бұрын
Since the glowstick is your cook, you could make a private bedroom right next to the kitchen, so they go straight to their post upon waking and their low rads can help keep the kitchen clean, he might even help with sewage germs a little.

3:16 - There are some situations where that can be a problem (ex., if a dupe happens to still be using the first sink - ex., because he fell asleep between the two jobs - when another exits the first toilet, that one won't wash his hands, whereas if they have to walk past 4 sinks, they'll always find a free one), but there's another, more important issue: travel times. Your toilets should be spread more or less evenly across your map, so dupes don't have to walk all the way to them and then back again. There's no advantage (other than saving a few pipes) in having them all in the same place.

I'm used to play with the mod that makes diseases dangerous again (eg. slimelung that can kill) so I learned to be extra careful while carrying slimelung-ridden slime around. Next time, build hand washing stations right at the entrance of the slime biome (preferably with the queuing mod on) and also right outside your mushroom farm (so the people storing up the slime as well as the farmers can wash their hands). Do that and you'll (almost) never see slimelung around.

Thoughts on the bathroom layout. The reason to have all the sinks at one end is that if there happens to be someone using the first sink when the person using the first bathroom comes out, the person using the bathroom will pass by without using the sink. It's a small corner case that isn't terribly likely to happen but that's the reason I group all of the sinks together next to the door. ETA: Someone already said this, I just didn't scroll down far enough, LOL!
@Ozmundas Жыл бұрын
They use the first sink they come to when they are germy... so in theory they should always use their own sink. I always do the sinks beside the door also.. but this method should work just as well. @alfonsneumann1878 Жыл бұрын

@@alfonsneumann1878 Yup ! It can also be messed up by having less bathrooms than duplicants on the same schedule... and a few other scenarios. With the way FJ plays, so long as the niche cases don't occur - the layout will work. The current germ load from the slimelung being spread around the base may cause this to happen, as he doesn't have sinks on the exit from the biome, so they could build up enough of a load of germs to require 2 washes. Once that issue is "handled" under normal conditions - it won't be an issue. Could see some food poisoning when he goes to clean up the old washroom ... time will tell :)

Regarding the fact Slimelung hasn't spread, planting the Buddy Buds was absolutely the best thing you could have done. There's a hidden hierarchy for germs of which is "stronger". Buddy Buds will always kill Slimelung and Food Poisoning when the different germs are present in the same or adjacent gas tiles. It's actually more effective than tactical placement of chlorine pockets. I'm unsure how Sporechids interact with Buddy Bud, so I'm not sure which would win in that situation.

If memory serves me, one potential issue with that bathroom design is the outer most toiled only has access to one sink. So if for some reason (sieve maintenance etc) occurs and an extra sink user shows up it increases the chance a dupe could get out with dirty hands. Water pressure is a lot weaker than you're thinking. It has to be like double the height of your deepest pool to start putting pressure damage on even the weakest materials. Random Hydra-SPOM tip I just picked up: Put oxygen to go up, and hydrogen to go down. This way if it bugs out and outputs in the wrong direction the offending gas to float away and will correct itself. The fully concealed geysers usually aren't influenced by the biome they're in. Unless the neutronium is three wide (for minor volcanoes on the small asteroids) and 5 wide (when it's the metal volcanoes on the small forest asteroid and small marsh asteroid), then you can assume all concealed geysers are random. The guaranteed water sources are never fully covered, only random ones are.

Rule of thumb that I always follow if I have access to bleach stone, instead of doing just a sink line followed by toilets, I put a hand sanitizer at each end so that I can have unrestricted entrances on both sides without worrying that some lazy dupe is going to wipe toilet leftovers all over my base. One less sink, double the confidence I won't suddenly have food poisoning showing up. For added safety, I also put one at each entrance of my great halls too as redundancy in case the dupe lines to the bathroom somehow manage to let one through or some other oversight creates a problem low on my priority list. Triple redundancy even if I'm running a mushroom farm and the slime isn't already going to be sterilized before delivery. It's more of a future proofing thing at first. ONI had a lot of exploits in the early days that people use to use to play the game. I tried to stick more inside the developers intent (up to a point) so that designs were less likely to be made redundant by patches and updates. Best example I can think of is nuclear waste, I will use the liquid vent exploit to compress it so I can have lots of rads. I just find rad collection annoying otherwise. But for O2 production I can make lots of O2 using a standard electrolyzer setup without any exploits. If I can do something the legit way without it being a chore or more fun another way, then I tend to go that way.

@@FrancisJohnYT The height of the rocket is a consideration too. It's only 20, which is a pain. I mean, I use them, but they're not as functional as H.

Hypothetically, if there were no water vents and no rockets were allowed, how would you generate water? Is it possible to design bathrooms that are net positive on water?
@FrancisJohnYT Жыл бұрын
Well you can trap dupes in a room and use them to make water, it's better to use the biohazardous dupes and cranking up diseases would also help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqGmYWeGjLutfac You can run a petroleum or sour gas boiler if you have oil wells and it's water positive. If you are super desperate you can also harvest CO2 for meteor showers, feed it to slicksters to make oil and burn that to produce some water. Their may be a few other methods but have not thought about it much in a while, water is usually a lot more common than it was.

Hey Francis, what do you think about mini sidequest of recycling as many resources as possible? For example turning all polluted dirt into oxygen, feeding all of your rock into feed, using up all of your coal, algae and stuff like that?

I was thinking of having to use everything. All the vents, all the geysers all the critters... well except gassy moos they are the worst.

With the Hydrogen vent and the anti entropy thermo nullifier close to each other would that be a great source of cooling?

One problem I've experienced with the Toilet1/Sink1/Toilet2/Sink2 type of set-up is if a dupe is using Sink2 while another dupe finishes up at Toilet 2 they will just skip washing themselves up. I tried this because I also enjoyed the symmetry but had to change back eventually. Something you've probably already noticed I figure.

I've been doing a max difficulty all achievement run, I've got the big three done and am now taking my time with the rest. Depends on their exact job, but narcoleptic can be one of the less impactful traits, I've had one as the cook since the start and barely noticed.
@Garueri Жыл бұрын
is the big three oxygen food and morale? also, do you know how long narcoleptics sleep per cycle?
@FrancisJohnYT Жыл бұрын
From my testing way back, Narcoleptics learn skills about 7-10% slower than their non Narco counterparts. Getting interrupted regularly like that causes them to have their jobs stolen from them when they nap, so more walking and less time working and skilling up. Might also be due to dropping items all the time, it's the worse when they drop critters, hot rocks and magma.
@mchelpa Жыл бұрын
@@Garueri The Carnivore, Locavore, and Super Sustainable achievements. Those are the three it’s easiest to permanently miss. Biggest risk to getting all achievements is the low chance a plant or a critter I need doesn’t show up in my seed. Narcoleptics sleep the same, just not always in a bed, and even get a morale bonus from narcoleptic sleep, but it’s the unpredictable timing on that sleep that causes issues. So narcoleptic haulers, for example, will drop things all over the place. A cook that doesn’t generally go anywhere might even be better off than a non-narcoleptic.
