Cool stuff right here. We're in the beginning stages of starting a similar journey of our own. I would encourage Yogi to grab a camera and just start talking to it when she's on watch so other couples aspiring to go sailing can get the woman's perspective. I know my wife would like to see that. As you know it can be a little wierd first starting off filming yourself. Just reassure her you're not going to use 99% of what gets recorded. You guys are doing great. We hope to see you on the water one day!

Just subscribed. I’ve watched your other episodes and enjoyed them. You too are very nice. Just a suggestion for attracting more people who either sail or wannabe sailors or just plain interested in sailing and/or traveling, please consider changing the name of your channel to sailing...maybe the name of your boat or your partner even..sailing yogi! Those searching for new channels to watch will find it easier on search. I’ll try to share with my friends as well. Take care and cheers you two. Look forward to your next video. Fair winds and following seas.

Aww such a nice comment and thanks for helping build the channel. Naming a business or a brand can be quite hard. There are many very successful businesses brands and KZbin channels named after the creator /founder and maybe helps people know me as me. However I like the sailing Yogi suggestion. Yogi does have a cool name. Will keep your suggestion in mind. Next episode coming this week:)

Peter, your videos are quite basic but I've hit the subscribe button just a way to show my support, and to tell you that you are doing a great job of keeping a vlog, considering how new you are to this whole sailing thing. @@catamaranmentor we certainly hope so. There was a cat in Australia we liked but were already on holiday in Thailand. Sadly they wanted a contract signed and deposit paid before we could fly from Thailand to look at it. We couldn't raise the deposit whilst on holiday so couldnt. Shame as we really liked it. It sold a couple of weeks later.

You learn manual steering really quickly when your auto pilot does shit itself. Then you make sure your auto pilot never craps out again, especially not without some sort of back up 🙄😂 Am loving hearing the STRONG kiwi accent!

I was quite nervous about having the autopilot fail. Going fit a second one as back up before I depart Nz. Sailing short handed we really do rely on it.

I just finished watching your video what it's like to live on a catamaran. I enjoyed it it seems like you just started Sailing by your videos about 6 months ago. A few questions I'm thinking about doing the same thing buying about the same size boat as what you have. I've driven motor boats 20 feet long. And I did that for a number of years but that's the extent of my experience in the water. I've never ever sailed. I'd like to know what it's like the bird to manoeuvre a boat that size in length and and width.

@theturnerfamily37584 жыл бұрын
Probably a stupid question but i'm not a sailor why don't you anchor at night and just travel in daylight?
@daveatticus10184 жыл бұрын
When on passage its not really possible, because the water is too deep. Most boats would not carry much more than 100m of chain for their anchor and given that many areas of the pacific can be up to 4000m deep. Technically they could "heave to" which is a way of setting up the boat so it drifts in a certain way against the wind. The down side of this is that you go downwind, meaning extra days to travel to get where you are going. Most sailors would only heave to, in a storm as a safer way to survive and reduce sails that are likely to be ripped. Generally sailors want to reduce their time at sea, because it reduces exposure to storms and inclement weather. Additionally there are things like food stores & fuel to think of. Hope that covers your question
@catamaranmentor4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dave better answer than I would have given. Mark happy to have a non sailor watching. You might like the Tonga episodes more coming soon as that’s focused more on travel location.

@@daveatticus1018 I see one of the main problems all these boaters have is looking for a nice anchor location and protecting against the elements and having enough depth not to run aground. It is constantly on their minds and sometimes they drift with an anchor at the bottom and need to change location. I wonder if in future, they could design some kind of bow thrusters etc, and a computer just works constantly to keep the boat at a single precise GPS coordinate without any anchor required. If you know about aviation, the F117 nighthawk, due to its stealth design would simply fall out of the sky without computers making thousands of constant adjustments to the control inputs(even during pilot operation) to keep it in level flight. I wonder if something similar can be designed for marine vessels to keep them in one place?
