In this episode I construct a flatback transom with built in storage and live bait tanks to improve the interior layout of the Cruise Craft.
My second series will feature the restoration of a Cruise Craft Galaxy 585 XL. The aim of this series is on high quality fibreglassing and boat repairs/restoration with a budget and DIY still in mind.

Been waiting for this for ages mate, looks awesome! I bought an old V15 that needs a full resto and I have zero experience in glassing. It was after watching your first series 😂 Sometimes you just have to just dive in! Cheers for all the info and effort on the channel🤙

Couple of questions, do you need to use actone between every of glass when fibreglassing if using an unwaxed resin and will it still work? Also, how many layers of glass do you lay at once before allowing it to cure, and for how long do you let it cure for?

Usually wipe down with acetone if you’ve let it dry overnight. If it’s still wet you don’t need to. You can lay as many sheets as you want down, the bottom ones will actually cure faster than the top ones.

Gelcoat or flow coat.... Eeek I am more confused now? Great video though.

Flowcoat, naming convention is very confusing. No gel coat was used in this build, it’s only meant for putting in moulds.

Your video description of gelcoat was accurate. I’m not sure what you mean about gelcoat being only used in molds. You can apply gelcoat at any stage of a product you just need to insure waxed gelcoat is used for the layer exposed.

man all that work was for nothing you didn’t grind out the glass on the deck enough

What do you mean the deck?
@loganbonavia308
@loganbonavia308 6 ай бұрын
the top deck of the boat you haven’t ground out enough glass when youve fibreglassed that “flat back” you have tied it in to the gelcoat, literally fibreglassed on old gelcoat and some of the resin bog you put down to glue your thermolite. Take that boat in rough weather its all gonna fall apart, when you fibreglass to a top deck or anything existing you need to grind about half the wall thickness of what your glassing to and build it up with fibreglass then sand flat. You haven’t ground out to at least 50mm wide your relying on a bond to gelcoat and a tiny bit of cabosil

That is exactly what I did, ground the top plug where I made the joins to about 50mm wide and well past the depth of the gel coat. Have been thrashing it in rough seas with people on it for a few year now.@@loganbonavia308
