I've seen Kapadokya (as we say in Turkey) 40 odd years ago when I was a little boy. There was only one hotel, which was full when we arrived and we had to sleep on spare mattresses in the corridors until a room was available, which didn't bother us because well, such things were quite normal back then. We could only see a fraction of the area vs. what you can see now and even that impressed me so much, like being in a si-fi movie that I still have vivid memories! I've been living abroad most of my life and watching your videos made me realise that I should go back there again with my family. I'm glad that you covered it so well.

Thank you. Yes do take the family! The place is so vast and doesn’t feel too touristy. We will be back

Wow, I've been to Capadoccia, but never saw it from a balloon, how utterly magnificent! When you get to Bodrum, pls look for SV Capricorn I, a 100 ft black masted navy blue gulet that I chartered in Croatia and tell Captain Eren and his wife, Oz, that I still think of our time together with enormously fond memories!

Thank you for a great video. In 2016, we were up at 0430 for the dawn launch two days in a row and both days the Turkish FAA grounded all balloons due to the high winds. Thanks for showing me what we missed !!

Ah that is such bad luck. We also had a delay but made it in the end.

This was stunning! Thankyou so much for shareing your wonderful experiences with us. The music too was perfection. Nice job with the varnishing and what a lovely anchorage to this not so pleasant task. Followed by a pleasant hike and a splash! Weather often makes the decision for us as to the next move so 'going with the flow' is quite an apt expression, especially with sailing. Best wishes from Cath and Keith in Morocco 😀

Great stuff! My first views from a different angle of Cappadocia & the balloons were thru the eyes of Norally on Intchy Boots Season 1 Episodes 107 & 108, worth the visit if you have the time!

That fish is Mercan in English it’s red bream, it’s a speciality of Cesme and in particular around Donkey Island
@svfairisle2 жыл бұрын
Arh, interesting. There were often little fishing boats around the islands & the had some sort of gill net they were drifting. I think the local in the motor boat who gave us the fish caught them by line from his rib off the rocks. I will have to try it.

I wondered what the active ingredient in the Velox that you liked was so looked at the MSDS; Zinc Pyrithione, and Zinc Oxide. Apparently the former is used in low concentrations in antibacterial household sponges and anti-dandruff products!

How are you able to varnish without taping first? If I would try that on my boat, I’d have drips everywhere!
@svfairisle2 жыл бұрын
I used to tape, still do on the thin 'eyebrows' around the boat, but you get pretty good at cutting in after a while .

Aren't balloon rides amazing. You've got all the time to watch the views from the hights gliding slowly and quietly with the wind. Done it some 3-4 times. I have a 30 year hanggliding career behind me and you're constantly looking for thermals, hardly any time for beautiful views.

The Epifanes I’m using does not need to be sanded between coats
@svfairisle2 жыл бұрын
Ah, that must be the breathable version, Wood finish gloss? I know they say that doesn't have to be sanded between every coat, but actually I think it you would just get a build up of dust and imperfections without sanding so I'm happy to give a quick rub over.

My Grandfather was a big fan of Captain Morgan but I am sure if anyone presented one to him drowned in orange juice they would have worn it, lol.

You guys would benefit from a velcro strap through the clew and around the boom. Looks like clew is lifting clear of boom and reef lines point loading the foot. 👍

Yes well spotted. There is a car in the slot there with a strap that goes through the an eye near the clew, it chaffed through at the end of last season, forgot all about it until we went out. On the list for this weekend before we sail South on Sunday
