Superb result,Will. The chipping work on the wing root is exemplary and the overall look perfectly in scale.Congratulations on a great build.

Wonderful job Will!! I especially liked your "tour" of all the separate methods you used in painting and weathering the kit. I liked the look of the finished model right off but showing each step showed me the reason why I liked it if you get my drift. Great build and I found the series interesting and entertaining.

Mr. Pattison: Your model building skills are good and your adding detail better as with your painting & weathering skills. Only thing I see wrong with your diorama is the one most important detail of all.......did the plane just drop outta the sky and land there ? Coming in at least 100 (+) mph would have tore the grass up, left some hefty long gouges in the dirt. A dead pilot with blood on the inside of the windshield would have topped it off, but I'm sure nobody makes a dead pilot ! Question: Have you ever thought about having functional Landing gear, Opening Canopy, motorized Prop, LED Navigation lights ? These are the things I do with models. No company makes things that actually work anymore. I remember the old car models had opening doors, trunk and hood. I've even made the front suspension components work on 1/24th / 1/25th scale cars. So I challenge you to attempt to make the landing gear actually work on any 1/32 P51 B,C,D Mustang. To get both main struts and the tail wheel to operate at the same time is quite a challenge in itself. So I challenge you to try to accomplish this task if you even can, by using nothing but the sprue trees and some memory wire from Walmart (jewelry craft). Melting parts of the sprue tree to fabricate a knob underneath that operates all the landing gear, a disk to attach the linkage rods (made out of memory wire) from the struts to the disk and shaft & knob underneath that operates all 3 landing gear at once. Shafts, eccentric cams, mounting blocks, disk, 90 degree Strut adapters and strut shaft mounting housings all made from from the left over sprue trees form your model builds. Do you accept this challenge ?

Its absolutely f.. amazing, Will. One comment if you dont mind would be a lack of oily (glossy) stains on the engine. It just looks too matt and clean. Keep it up m8

I love the attention to detail. The oil spray from the blown piston looks so cool and so real - I also have seen this happen (heavy equipment).

Beautiful piece Will. Tamiya does spray really nice, when I tried the Zenthial style last week on the LVT, it was 90/10 thinner to paint. I sprayed at the lowest pressure possible and now spidering. You done did a great job on making it look right!

Will a first class effort. Lots of attention in that model and it shows in the finished display. The 109 is one of my all time favourite aircraft and you've done it proud with that model. The Dragon model looks great and is now on my list to get. My wife will love you for that I'm sure. Well done mate.

Hi Will, catching up on some of your earlier posts/builds and came across the Me109. Great, realistic build, set off fantastically by the grass! It looks so realistic and sets the model off well. You asked in your dialogue for "tips" well I have one for you. The best flat coat, bar none, is something called Purity Seal. That may be an unknown to you in deepest USA but it comes in an aerosol marketed by Citadel/Games Workshop. Once decanted from the aerosol it is very fluid, almost like water and can be easily prayed through any airbrush. It takes around 30 minutes to dry properly but it results in a truly fantastic matt finish that is very subtle and amazingly thin, unlike some other dull coats. Anyway, if you can get your hands on some, give it a go! Cheers. David Draycott.

Do you have a preferred method of chipping or does it depend on the type of effect you want to achieve as to which method you use? Probably a silly question but did you just airbrush the white aluminium base in the area you wanted the chipping to be or is the the whole wing covered? Fantastic work - looks so life like.

thanks for the kind words! this one was done during my chipping evolution. it was sponged masking fluid over some localized aluminum, and it's still my second favorite method. but, i'm all about the hairspray now.

@@barpfoto Thanks for your reply. Retuning to the hobby I find it difficult to know which technique to practice. Theres always the desire to complete a model rather than practice a method. I think discipline is the key but I think you've stated this before - but its easier said than done. I think a video on your approach to a build, planning execution philosophy etc. would make interesting listening. But maybe you've covered that already?

Meh....it's okay, I guess! :P Joking aside, a cracking display of a multitude of weathering techniques executed with a quality and precision that doesn't detract from the scaled realism. I agree about the Tamiya paints being the best for airbrushing small areas without getting the spidering; I used Tamiya for the very small mottled camo pattern on my Hawker Fury Bi-Plane...worked a treat. I had my pressure down to 10 psi with my Paasche AB.
