I saw the new Nissan patrol doing better than the 200 Land cruiser in climbing rough terrain. it's got all round ifs were the cruiser has a solid axel at the back the problem with solid axel is it can only be lifted with increase in tire size. No matter what you do to the suspension. The downside is ifs can get more expensive when lifted but you can get more clearance when done correctly
@RoamOverlanding4 жыл бұрын
@@woestynkriek63 very interesting. I always felt this way about the new defender, it’s clearance is insane because of the way it’s suspension is setup.

@@RoamOverlanding I suppose the market dictates what is put on a vehicle as standard equipment. When I left the USA in 2009, it was rare to find any new car or truck with rear drum brakes. Only older vehicles from the 1970s the early 1980s still used drum brakes. Somewhat of a shock when I came back to Malaysia to find that this was only the norm on more expensive and luxury brands. This is true on the same vehicle sold both in the USA and around the world. Less safety features, smaller engines, but can cost more than the upscale version in the USA.

The rear drum brakes are actually very good with dealing with dynamic loads, so it’s recommended to keep them. The BBK will make up for any missing performance from the rear
@gotoylc4 жыл бұрын
Toyota has used rear discs on 4x4 vehicles since the early 1990’s. I am very surprised disks have not been added to the Hilux range. The problem with rear drums is that dust and mud will make them wear quickly; especially in off-road applications, around town is ok. Keep a check on the rear drums for wear n tear often.

Good & very sensible choice of doing the brakes BEFORE throwing way more fuel & boots to the vehicle. The colour could be matched better to the vehicle :-P That being said.......-> The PP hackjob with the dustshield is "No bueno"... Sorry! This should have been delt with differently. What is the ACTUALL difference in Ø between the factory & upgraded rotor? Furthermore what brakepads are U running now? We only saw the budget upgrade running Mintex which is not overly inspiring.... Personally I`d love to see a rough financial figure of what this sets a customer back. At the very least do a price comparison to what a Toyota Dealer would charge for 2 discs + pads, hose(s) & calipers so the audience can have a taste :-) & Finally -> How much (less) clearence is there between the caliper & rim? Roam Overlanding and that is a lovey job! But you need to find the right balance between talking and doing. I also have a Hilux which I am customizing and the things that you use are very nice, but... realistically you could have started enjoying the bushes without any gear at all ;)... you are presenting a myth that some people are chasing and that most people can’t afford. Don’t get me wrong, I love your videos and also the way they are filmed, BUT I would like to see more “action” rather than marketing... this could have been done over a series of episodes and you could have “improved” while experiencing the wild. It’s just my opinion, even though I’m doing the same things as you. My 257 km Hilux is sitting in a workshop waiting to get his upgrades... instead of me enjoying the wild. And o believe I made a mistake.
