There are good samaritans all around us. West Indies have a horrible track record of identifying talent and harnessing them. I truly hope Sylus Tyndall gets a go in the Guyana squad soon enough. From all reports that kid has got something special about him also.

Kyle Mayers over Johnson Charles is the obvious choice. CWI finally was almost right - 14 of 15 is great selection. Six bowlers in every team gives West Indies best chance of winning cricket. This Proto-Bantu is now looking forward to West indies winning T20 World Cup 2024

Hi, from India. Great Analysis, but one thing I find very strange about WI is they got great players in there squad (except good death bowlers as you said). These guys always perform great in leagues no matter where they are being played but not for WI specially in world cups. Why do you think is that the case? Do they play different roles in national teams as compared to leagues or they have more freedom in leagues or simply there performance looks good because the quality of opposition is bad as compared to internationals??
@Topofoffcricketpodcast
@Topofoffcricketpodcast 23 күн бұрын
Hey Aakash, Thank you for sharing your thoughts. First there’s the difference between international cricket and league cricket. Vast difference! Lines and lengths have to be tighter and batsmen have to be more switched on. Also, like you’ve alluded to, roles change a lot once bowlers and batsmen show up for their national sides.

Brandon King was injured so no one knows if he will have form and we have only 2 openers. Our problem is at the top. We have Russell Sheppard Powell and Rutherford are all devastating finishers we just need 1 to get off. Question where is Hetmyer supposed to bat?

With all due respect to your analysis , why we are so taken with these fast bowlers bowling the death overs ? Motie bowled the final over in a CPL match for the Guyana Amazon Warriors and defended 6 runs while taking 2 wickets . That's food for thought Sir .
@Topofoffcricketpodcast
@Topofoffcricketpodcast 25 күн бұрын
Hey Anthony, Thank you for stopping by. I am not taken up with fast bowlers bowling at the death. Matter of fact I don’t care who bowls at the death as long as they can consistently do the job. Motie did that in one game and I saw that game. He has yet to do it at the international level and when he does it and does it consistently, then I’ll speak on his death bowling abilities at the international level. The fact remains WI are struggling through all the phases to restrict teams. Out bowling is struggling royally and if we are to get out of the group phase they will have to fire on all cylinders.

Kyle Mayers is not a good international T20 bowler. He is quite ineffective because he lacks pace. We already have Russell and Shepherd. Both of them can do what you are asking him to do, just better. The squad already have two left arm spinners and they are both better than Allen. Plus they can bat.

You will always find different opinions on seletions .....just back.the team ....somtimes the guys who people saying should not be inthe team do well and excell in WC ......any allrounder can be a finisher, a finisher get the runs in a short space of time and win matches .....sharmar is a skillfull bowler in any form........shamar may become a good death bowler with his variations
@Topofoffcricketpodcast
@Topofoffcricketpodcast 23 күн бұрын
Hey Roger, Most definitely. You have to back the 15 selected to do the job whether you agree with the selections or not. Yes, in some matches a Shepherd or Russell can finish it but it doesn’t always come off. Hetmyer has become quite skilled at it in the IPL.

We are judging Shamar on one game. Sam Badree was the number 1 bowler in the icc t20 that does not mean he would have been great in test. Santokie was a magnificent t20 bowler that does not mean he is good at test. Mitchell Starc is a great bowler I dont see him lighting up the ipl. So being a great bowler in test does not translate to t20. They rolled the dice with Shamar it could be good it could fail. Obed might not be at his best but in Nepal he was a cut above all our bowlers.
@Topofoffcricketpodcast
@Topofoffcricketpodcast 20 күн бұрын
Badree never turned or flighted the ball so he was never going to be a good long format player. Krishmar Santokie didn’t have any pace so it was going to be difficult for him to trouble anyone in a test match. Even though Starc has really hit his straps in the IPL he still has 12 wickets from twelve matches, and in the grand scheme of things that is good. There’s a reason why they haven’t dropped him. Shamar Joseph bowls great lines and lengths coupled with great pace. That’s a rarity for West Indian fast bowlers. Great lines and lengths at pace can survive any format of cricket.

There’s the ability to score runs wherever he asked to bat added to the fact that he can bowl in the middle overs and keep a lid on things. In case you didn’t know he has a 6.59 economy rate in T20I. The best of any West Indian bowler.

Blogger listening to what you are saying about Shamar Joseph is all nonsense, do you know when the ODI cricket started in 1971.There was a lot players both bowlers and batsman, couldn't make the odi squad. Because they didn't have the potential to play that version of that game, just like Shamar Joseph. Bowling in test cricket or batting, it is quite different in odi and T20 cricket. I can tell that Desmond Haynes have no knowledge about T20 cricket at all, it is different from the odi. The wi team might not come out of 1st round, this not a mouth game. It is to go out there and perform credible for your team, so with all the fancy talking. It is not going to change the outcome of the results, just like 2018,2020 ,2022 and 2024.Because the people who are inches of the wi cricket, they never win a championship trophy competition during their careers over the years. So they does not have any known how to enhanced the team, more than continues with their biased insolarity selection. Anyway the day of reckon soon be here, when the wi team once failed miserable again. Because of their biased selection process, then they are going to say.We are going back to the drawing board once again, because they failed to listened to facts about certain players. I know that you have a lot of cyber bullies out there, they are just some bandwagonists. They all forgot that it took wi team 27 years to break the spells and, they had a very good team. To defend their title in 2018 and the same losers,who played for decades could not break the spells is. Now trying to dictates to the players them who won the championship trophy competition, under certain circumstances. Because the way cwi management was treating the players and,they defeated the most favorites teams in the competition. That is why they should keep the team to defend their title, they got rid of them saying, that they are too old. They want younger players without any form of experiences, playing well oiled experiences teams. So cwi management should know that it is a dead deal, because they are not going to survive in that condition of games. The wi does not have the kind of players, to really match up with the 2012 and 2016 teams. They should know how to faced out certain players from the team, more than just get rid of a winning team. Only about 2 players played in the defending of their title, so the wi team must hit rock bottom like those 27 years and ,not winning a title, ok.

Are you seriously putting that much stock into that Nepal series? I wouldn’t! That was a good run out for him because of the amount of time he has missed recently. Went to South Africa for the SA20 and didn’t do well. Went to the PSL and didn’t do much there either. When he is on song he is quite a good bowler, at this moment he is not.

@@Topofoffcricketpodcast This Porto-Bantu is intelligent enough to prefer Upper Corentyne, Corentyne, Canje, Berbice, East Coast Demerara, Essequebo, Guyana, West Indies, West Africa, African nations and southern India, Indian nations - in that order. This Porto-Bantu is cognizant he has Barbados Africans experience in his ancestral heritage. Campbell and Martin are surnames of his ancestors and relatives in Barbados. Brathwaite are linked to Martin. This Porto-Bantu is not aware whether Brathwaite are his ancestral names. He has numerous relatives named Brathwaite. They are descendants of Archer in Essequebo. Seymour Nurse is his last favorite Barbadian batsman. 1954, Kanhai is the beginning of cricket. 1979 WSC Fredericks is the end. 2014, Hetmyer is the renaissance. Mother listened to Kanhai at the crease. Father turned off the radio when Kanhai and Butcher were dismissed. This Porto-Bantu only pays attention to Hetmyer and promising Berbice cricketers. Knowledge of self is the highest state of intelligence. It is consciousness. It is the greatest aspect of human existence. Spirituality permits humans to respect every life on earth. Humanity is ancestral consciousness. Understanding the absurdities of imitation Europeans is a mark of intelligence. ethnic and community consciousness enhances natural rights. The problem with West Indies cricket is the administrators except for Clyde Walcott - the greatest known cricket brain in West Indies cricket - have all failed to eradicate malfunctions of the European construct from the regional game. The cleavage to European construct as political geography as the mark for selection in West Indies teams is the cross suffocating west indies cricket 1995 -2024. It took a Shamar Joseph performance reminiscent of greatest West indies internationals from Tommy Burton to Learie Constantine in the pre-test match era - and from Constantine to Walsh, Ambrose and Bishop; to win a test match in Australia. It is possible there is no Guyanese African without Barbadian African heritage. However, Clyde Walcott remains the only cricketer and administrator who promoted the rise of Guyana cricket. Until recently, Ambrose, Roberts and Roland Butcher made great contributions to Berbice cricket. Ambrose returned this Spring 2024 to coach in Berbice. This Porto-Bantu advocates the rise of Berbice cricket and Guyana cricket. He grew up hearing Berbice won one match and drew another with Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago. The old timers never mentioned Arthur John Richardson and Demerara cricketer were in the Berbice teams in the late 1930s. Berbice batted well against England in the mid 1950s. The bowlers were mediocre. What are your thoughts on fast bowers in Berbice, and Guyana in 2024? Joseph, Smith, Thorne and Shepherd; plus Motie, Permaul, and Sinclair can bowl out any first class team in the West Indies twice in matches in 2024. Berbice has Hetmyer and Anderson. Berbice needs two top class batsmen and an outstanding wicket keeper to dominate West Indies championship. Loved the fact Thorne exposed Kraigg Brathwaite as the mediocrity he is in West Indies championship 2024. This Porto-Bantu rates Holding’s performance against Fredericks, Kallicharran and Lloyd in 1975 at Bourda as the best exhibition of fast bowling he has ever witnessed. Desmond Haynes is delusional. His absurdities has no boundaries. No brain can consider Haynes is truthful in his statement he choose Hetmyer over Mayers. This Porto-Bantu strongly doubts any resident of Fort St Andries - the current psychiatric institution in Guyana - accept that nonsense. Haynes is a liar. Haynes’ statement does not reflect the squads he has selected. Haynes is the perfect exhibit of the quagmire known as Cricket West Indies.

@@MlilwanaOsanku lots of food for thought here. There was a time when Inter-County cricket in Guyana had First class status. I think that status was taken away in the late 90s. Hetmyer and Joseph are actually relatives of mine. My grandmother is related to Shamar and Hetmyer’s grandparents. All from the same village, Barracarra. Berbice do have the ability to put out a good first class squad and be more than competitive. We are actually the Hub for fast bowling in Guyana and the West Indies currently. Smith, Thorne, Shepherd, Joseph, Tyndall. That’s a pretty great lineup in any present day squad Sir Clyde from all reports was the best President our board has ever seen. For some odd reason no one else (all successful businessmen in their own right) have been able to create a successful WICB/CWI and build on what he left. Too much nationalism at the heart of our decline. Desmond Haynes like many before him has been a disaster. Selecting a squad is no walk in the park, but I think he has let his ego get in the way of sound judgement.
