When you hear anything about fish oil, the acronyms EPA and DHA always come up. But what do these terms actually mean?

Very good video and simple to understand! Answered my questions about EPA/DHA especially at the end. Would you consider 3/4g of fish oil is safe (i use your product).

@@TeaLeafThief The best omega-6 to omega-3 ratio is 3: 1. Usually we have 20: 1 .... only the highest quality fish or algae oils can restore the proper balance

Great video.Thank you. Most fish oils are preserved with tocopherols. Generally kept on shelves, they can go rancid quickly. More expensive products are additionally preserved with polyphenols of olive oil. Tested for rancidity, they can remain fully valuable for months. It's best to use them. I don't give others to my family.

Plant sources usually only have ALA, which in the body is (very little amount of it) converted into EPA and DHA. Also, you need to keep your LA (Linoleic acid) intake low in order to increase ALA conversion into EPA/DHA as LA is competitive to ALA in this respect.

Only Ala

EPA and DHA are not found in plants growing on the ground. They can be obtained from cold-water fish or from algae. The most valuable oils are preserved with dyes obtained from olives (olive oil polyphenols - on the label)

I would have appreciated this video more if it had not mentioned fish oils a billion times and make it sound like fish oils are the sole sources of DHA and EPA. There are plenty of plants that are rich with Omega 3 and DHA/EPA like algae, flax seeds, chia seeds,...
@manu39393936 жыл бұрын
I'm no expert but it seems to me that flax seeds and chia seeds mainly contain ALA and not EPA and DHA. Very little ALA is converted to EPA and DHA

@@mel.mefferd true, but cellulose is still important in the form of fiber. Digest or not, we take algae for the omega 3. Unlike fish, it doesn't contain toxic metals like cadmium and mercury.

I just love the assumption that Omega 3 & ALA can ONLY be gotten from fish oil. This is in fact not true. As a vegan, I know that there are many plant sources with abundant Omega 3 in them. In fact, some MORE than fish. Algae, flax, walnuts, avo etc etc. The Omega 3 in fish oil, like protein from meat, is in fact 2nd hand, as the fish consume algae, which is the actual source of Omega 3.
