The EPA would like to help specifiers solve challenges you face controlling erosion, managing stormwater, and growing plants. The EPA believes using compost to be a key part of solutions. To this end, the EPA provided grant funding to the Compost Research and Education Foundation with assistance from the United States Composting Council, to reach out to specifiers. We explored the challenges you face through calls and a survey to specifiers, as well as calls to compost manufacturers in EPA Region 3’s DC, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Virginia. This video is a recording of the resultant EPA Region 3 workshop to hear the issues specifiers are facing, and share knowledge on how compost use can help address the issues specifiers face.
Topics Include:
Benefits of compost use
NC DOT case study
Seal of Testing Assurance (STA) Certified Compost program overview
Slowing Phosphorus movement
How compost use compares to traditional BMP’s across the life cycle of the project
