My 2 cents: 18k sucks but it’s much, much better than what it could be. Fighting this single penalty is futile, they will steamroll you. Comply with whatever you can, set up a 30 yr payment plan (or whatever you can afford) with the treasury, and move on to bigger brighter things. If you are going to fight; your time, energy, and resources will be better spent in joining a group to collectively work on changing the legislation and protecting racing by changing the way the clean air act is written. We weren’t sued by the epa or any government agency for that matter, our lawsuit was brought by a private group of environmentalists who ended up treating us much more unfairly than the epa would have; in fact we begged the epa to take our case instead of letting the private group sue and they told us that we didn’t have enough violations (less than 20) to make it worth pursuing. It sucks but believe me, it could be worse.

Dude's a hero to so many, it does hurt. This episode was a sign of the future. Maybe PFI will look toward more methanol builds? The first Tesla on the dyno! Think about the mental leap from horse and buggy to internal combustion. People adapted and folks like Brent made the industry grow. I'd love to see the shop dive into hybrid, electric power adders both induction (superchargers) and hub motor systems or even a full electric build. Fortify the combustion builds/mods end and add as much new tech to push the industry ahead.

@@onetime7214 that's not going to fix anything. The ecu's in question are likely s300s installed in p28s or p06s. An s300 is considered a "defeat device" in the eyes of the EPA. That fact that its installed in a factory honda ecu is the issue. Putting a stock tune on it isnt going to get them off his back, anyone with a laptop could just load a different tune on it after the fact. This has to do with allowing the end use to disable emissions controls on the factory honda ecu.

Shops in the Pacific Northwest got hit hard to this year, it's ridiculous. Had to cancel my dyno in April because no one will run my car due to the emission deletes I have. I worked years to get to that goal, to have a little fun and squeeze out some ponies snuffed out on some BS.
