Everyone let’s be clear : “Crystal night is coming” wasn’t referring to the historical event but to what crystal symbolizes : transparency, purity. They even talk about that in “the crystals that protected us are shattered” which means that there is no more purity in this world and that hypocrisy and lies just fucked up the “transparency” of the world. The “crystal night is coming” alludes to the fact that the world is going to be pure again and transparent which means without hypocrisy, lies and manipulation. “Night” is also a metaphor to depict the darkness of the society we live in. If you take in consideration ALL the lyrics that’s what is denounced throughout the song, nothing to do with “crystal night” of 1938 and we find that reference in a lot of poems actually, it is often used as a metaphor… Also, about the clothes, I mean this kind of uniform obviously looks like nazis’ one because it is a military one. Other idols wore it such as ATEEZ in “Wonderland” and they weren’t accused of being nazis… If we consider history to put clothes on then we should say to all the people wearing Hugo Boss they are nazis too since this brand participated actively in the nazi party until its capitulation and manufactured the uniforms of soldiers. I hear a lot of German people, maybe you are actually one of them saying that they are ashamed of the past actions of Hitler but why are you? It wasn’t you, I mean every country has its own more or less dark history but we should just learn through it not to do the same mistakes and we shouldn’t live depending on it. I totally understand that you guys could have been shocked by the sentence due to your history but please try to see the lyrics as they are with an objective point of view. I agree as such, but that doesn't exactly make it better I think? All of the following will talk about C9's mistakes, it's not against EPEX's members. Pretty much everyone immediately associated the nazi-time (especially the Reichspogromnacht/Crystal Night) with it, and that is bad enough on its own. It has triggered and upset people, and at that point it doesn't really make a difference whether it was accidentally or intentionally. (For that exact reason, every single depiction of the Hakenkreuz and of other Nazi symbols is banned in Germany). About what you said to see it objectively: yeah, sure, you're right, but visual stuff like MVs are always taken in subjectively, so it doesn't make a lot of a difference. If you're famous, you HAVE to be mindful of your actions and the influence they might have, and I personally just can't imagine the management didn't realize at all what people would think of with these lyrics and that MV, especially considering that the Reichspogromnacht was one of the worst days/nights in German history and not just "some night where some Jews were killed" or something. This tragic event was, whether intentionally or not, depicted as cool and badass in this MV (because of the association to it). About what you said about how many German people still feel ashamed about what "we" did: obviously we do feel ashamed when most of our direct ancestors have silently accepted what was going on - or have even directly helped. And it doesn't exactly help when we still get cursed at for being Nazis in other countries. Sure, history goes on and everything, but so many German people (myself included) have to live with that knowledge and those experiences.

Also not everyone thought about that, it just depends on your culture, some probably don’t even know such an event occurred tbh. We just assume unconsciously that because it’s important for us (because it’s our culture) everyone is the same but no. Also if they had to pay attention to every detail not to shock anyone nothing would be released because since as you said everything is subjective we don’t know how people will react. They made a mistake, we totally agree on the fact that it was really really not welcomed but at the same time if it was intentionally I believe they didn’t mean bad so why all this scandal tho the agency already apologized? They are humans and can do mistakes, it’s an awful one but they apologized already, mistakes as awful as they are are humans I agree also on the fact that if you’re famous you have to mindful of your actions but as I said “crystal night” is often used as a metaphor probably not in Germany for sure but it actually means what I wrote on my comment. Also as human beings how can you be mindful of everything like the agency is managed by humans like you and I and have their own mindset. If they didn’t think of this historical event it’s maybe because of the culture difference and we have to respect that I think. Not everyone knows the term “crystal night” because we all have different cultures. I personally learnt that event at school cause I’m French and it’s Europe but some country such as Chile probably don’t know about it, it’s cultural diversity… If we had to take in consideration the history of each country to create an mv there would be none. I will use a French historical example that is significant in French culture so that you can draw a parallel to this huge German historical event. In the kpop group Kingdom there is Louis which represents the French king Louis XIV we even see Versailles (his palace) in the clip. However this king is the figure of monarchy and French Revolution with all the deaths that conflict generated. It could have been offensive to French people too to see that king represented tho he generated this bloody historical event. What I mean is every subject is offensive in a way and sensitive especially historical matters right? So if we had to pay attention to how each culture could see it nothing would be released… I’m sorry to hear that you still feel ashamed of it but it wasn’t the same period of time, how we see things is different because our societies evolved so your ancestors probably didn’t do anything because they didn’t have the mentality and the knowledge we have nowadays. And I’m truly sorry that some people still call you nazis but it’s just that they are close minded, there will always be bad people unfortunately for humankind… but it’s sadly “thanks” to those kind of events that the world became what we know nowadays, if there hadn’t been WWII the world would surely been different, each historical events helped shaping our world and our modern societies that are relatively free, if people didn’t die during the French Revolution my country wouldn’t be a republic. Apparently the song writters came with "crystal night" after changing a bit a concept mentioned on the book, so they never intended to reference the actual historical event. The elements in the MV are inspired by the book as well. The lyrics that references Crystal night were changed to erase any reference to the event, and the parts in the song are being re-recorded, the subtitles in the MV were already changed accordingly. So their concept is to critic the status quo for wanting teens not to stand out, taking elements of 1984 to talk about that persecution if you rebel or stand out

But yeah, at the beginning I was afraid it was an excuse, but after thinking about it, it does fit in my opinion. (sorry for any mistake, english is not my first language)

"Crystal Night" is something very horrible, I tell you honestly, I come from a former Jewish family.
