Efren Reyes vs Dallas West from the late rounds of the 2000 US Open 14.1 Championship, back in April 2000. While Efren is not known as well for his straight pool game, he shows in this video that he can play straight pool with the best of them. Dallas, more known for his straight pool game, had finished second in this event just a couple years earlier.
“Weenie Beanie” Bill Staton and Larry Schwartz manned the booth for this one.

Even in his late 60's, he's still playing with the young guns in Derby City every January in 9-ball, bank pool, and one pocket. Still gets into the top 32 and even higher in most tournaments.

Man I wish there was video of the insane run from Efren back in the Philippines. Bustamante has talked about it a few times in interviews.... and apparently he says it WAS recorded.?? I forget the exact total but I know it was somewhere in the 500-550+ range... 😲 and apparently by the halfway mark the Pool Hall was jammed packed with his friends and fans all watching in awe. lol Does anyone know if this was ever on KZbin... or anywhere for that matter?? I've looked for it so many times, now I'm wondering if it even WAS actually recorded?!? I know there has been Higher runs, by a few different elite guys, but tbh, I don't care what anybody says.... Efren is simply the GOAT. The guy almost never played straight pool, certainly not like all the other disciplines he's mastered, yet he can step in and learn the game very fast. There IS a few videos on here of Efren running 120's 130's ...and this 142, but Damnnnm.... I'd Love to see that INSANE run.!!??

Took me a while to remember his name (I remembered his nickname... Weenie Beanie (spelling's probably wrong)) whose real name is Billy Staton I think ..? Of course Da Swarz is someone who's better known on KZbin at least as he commentated the 2011 One Pocket Open that TAR produced. Hope this is helpful to someone else who struggled to remember his voice as I did. And of course, спасибо большое to Accu-Stats // Pat (long live Pat). Of course, if I'm not mistaken ... this is the USO 14.1 in which Mike Sigel was so distracted by a cue ball barrelling through OBs to get its butt into the side pocket that ... he SLIPPED! (per Billy) ... and _"fell on his cue"_ in the middle of playing some "nobody" ... aka, Johnson and Johnson (for those of you who know a particular Hawaiian outta Bellflower CA). 🙂

Lucky that there is one pool hall, Velvet Touch Billiards that have a couple of really nice heated 5x10s. Fast and true (actually runs a little long). Dallas West was right to call the foul, later he said something like I know the rules , which was uncalled for. In fact when he said did you mean to play that? safe earlier, when Efren got lucky was ok, but probably just a move , trying to break his rythym. Then at the end Efren smiles and shakes Dallas hand. I wish I could be more forgiving, like that. I'm working on that.

Watching Reyes shoot 14.1 with these bucket pockets is almost laughable, especially after seeing him run multiple racks of full rotation. Nothing against Mr. West, he's obviously an excellent player. It would be great if carom were more popular in the US, since it's how Efren developed most of his skill.

Straight pool, 14.1 great practice. As for being a viewing sport though? Not. It is the least popular of all the billiard games, though maybe seven ball with selected last pocket is the least known and not all that enjoyable to watch. Straight pool is like a slop endurance test. I'll watch 1 pocket, 9, 10 and sometimes 8 ball, but never 14.1. Great demo of Efren's skills, but you never see the Filipino players play it anymore. There's a reason.

Dallas West is a hall of famer, and one of the best straight pool players to ever live. Unfortunately a lot of the best straight pool players primes were before Accu-Stats, but believe me this guy used to rain 100’s
