Saw there was a new video and I was so excited to watch it, but then I saw it was over 3 hours long. I thought maybe I will skip around, but three hours later, I just finished watching the whole thing! I really appreciate the attention to detail and your clear explanations. It’s also great that you included what didn’t work, that's really the best parts. And I love how supportive your wife is, helping out in the process. Congrats on the bananas too! Also, I wouldn’t give up on the water and glue trick just yet. It seems like it could be a good alternative to the expensive wood hardener at least.
@tcurtis494 күн бұрын
I wasn’t sure if the flow was smooth enough to keep someone entertained for over 3 hours so I’m glad to see you made it through! And I think the water/glue trick might be good on really loose particle board that isn’t painted, particularly if I’m using Bondo over the top anyway. I have a lot of fun trying new things and seeing what works and what doesn’t, at least for me, and really working on games is a matter of perseverance so it’s important to see that a failure here or there is definitely to be expected :)

Hi Tod and Cindy, congratulations on your exceptional work. We know that you could just afford a new working arcade cabinet, and not waste time repairing a cabinet in such bad condition. But I know that above all you want to preserve the magnificent history of these games, and put as much effort into making these cabinets as beautiful as when they were new, which you do wonderfully, even if you say you are not a professional. You are passionate, a lover of arcade cabinets, and we feel in your videos all the love you put into them. Big kisses to you and Cindy from France where I watch you with pleasure. These 3h17:55 were incredible. ps: stop making Cindy do the cleaning ...

Just want to tell you how much I love your videos. I was so excited to see a 3-hour+. Disappointed we won’t see a Battlezone vid (that was one of my faves growing up), but I look forward to whatever else you have in store in the future. Thanks for sharing!!
@tcurtis4910 күн бұрын
It started out at 8+ hours so I condensed it as much as I could :) Glad 3+ is still manageable. Battlezone was working great until it wasn’t. And I chased down every chip on the schematic trying to figure it out. Finally had to send the board to an expert and even he was stumped for about 6 months. But eventually found the issue and I’m back in business. It is one of my favorites from when I was a kid as well!

I am so glad I stumbled across your channel, Tod. When I was younger, I loved collecting retro games and consoles. But as I got into my mid-20's, I began to fall out of love with it. I think a lot of it had to do with the skyrocketing prices in the market, and my local thrift stores never had anything anymore since a ton of local game stores opened up. But watching your videos allows me to live vicariously through you. Your collection/what you do with it is always what I'd dreamed of doing myself. Maybe I'll find the love for it again at some point, but for now I'm more than happy to watch your experiences :)
@tcurtis492 сағат бұрын
It's never too late! But it is much harder to find anything out in the wild anymore, at least from a console gaming standpoint. That's one of the reasons I enjoy fixing up arcade games--there's still bargains and gems out there to grab. I'm glad you enjoy the nostalgia trip and thanks for the kind words :)

What an incredible video! Even though it's long, I had a blast watching this restoration step by step! Very good editing of the video, superb images, lots of details and comments, it's really impressive Tod! Just a little note: I speak relatively little English so I activate the translated subtitles on your videos but they hide the text comments at the bottom of your videos, so I miss a lot of your text comments and I can't fix this problem in the youtube subtitle settings :( I can't wait to see the next restorations, especially with the new games you just recovered in this video! A big congratulations to you both! (we mustn't forget Cindy!)

Nicely done! You did a great job restoring it. I have fairly fond memories of that game. Used to play it in a long gone sub shop in my home town back in the day. Got fairly good at it as I recall but not an expert by any means. I seem to remember the bonus stage having 3 or 4 bears running around as my only memory of how good I got at it. Thanks for a great video!

At what point is it worth just building a new cabinet? I'm mostly joking, but that was in rough shape. Regardless, I'm glad you did the work. Well done.
@tcurtis498 күн бұрын
This cabinet was in great shape compared to some of my others :) Check out the Tron video if you want to see a cabinet I should have scrapped but didn’t. In any case I love to try to salvage what I can but many times it would be smarter just to replace most of the cabinet…
@cendrizzi8 күн бұрын
@@tcurtis49That's great. There is something about restoring stuff that is more in line with the spirit of the hobby and contrasts nicely with how modern stuff irreparable and often thrown away. Who knows where that old cabinet has been and how much it's been moved around before it arrived in your careful hands. This cabinet is quite a bit before my time and I'm glad it's getting another chance. I also enjoyed the Bondo work, as I've used wood fillers when working with similar wood issues and that seems like a better solution than the fillers I've used.
