I bought a second hand R1200RT, coming from a Superduke 1290, I was really surprised how capable it is. It's not as fast as the SD (but not much is), but it goes and handles wayyy better than I expected it to, it's properly impressive.

Hey Christopher , what a show! Five countries in a day, fantastic ride…Only from you, Smokey😃. That BMW RT, is the bike for the job, comfortable and competent and also beautiful from where I stand👍🏻 That rocky sound in the final moment of the video as you were arriving home, was just awesome !🤩 This bike is sooo good! I think the world is going nuts with the general prices of everything. Millions for a house in the middle of a lot of houses😂😂What for man? I d rather live on a much modest one with a large backyard and a nice garage space for my bikes, far enough, away from nosy pocker neighbors, if had the choice!!🤣 People are getting insane, living in top of each other’s 😂There are places to visit and places to live. Places to work and places to invest too. But to live, somewhere quieter is the best, anytime 👌🏻 Enjoyed a lot the video! Thank you. ✌️✌️

Example of different perspectives: I live in Texas and it’s not uncommon for me to punch out 600-1000 miles on my 1090r to get somewhere to ride that is not flat. Lol. I could ride west leave at sunup and still Be in Texas at sunset. I normally will only stop for gas. Plus is stupid hot here. Think I am talking myself into leaving! Lol.

I did an Iron Butt (1,000 US miles) on a 2014 Multistrada in 18 hours including a 2 hour break 😈. I think the RT is a great bike to road trip on but I found the leg room a little bit cramped. Smokey , which would you prefer driving if you only drove on tarmac : the GSA 1250 or the RT? And tell me exactly why? Always wondered about that as i drive a GSA1250 myself for tarmac use only. Never test driven the RT. Always thought the comfort of the GSA suspension and the straight up seating position were superior to the RT.
@LifeofSmokey Жыл бұрын
Tarmac only , I"m going for the RT right away! It rides like a GS , has even more comfort as a GS , the seating position is also very straight up , the seat is more comfortable , the handlebar is a bit under an angle and more towards you so even more comfort there and last but not least it has a much lower seat compared to the GSA and for my 176cm having both feet on the ground is awesome. The GSA is more fun in the wisties , popping a wheelie here and there and a bit easier to throw around. But for cruising on tarmac , having music pumping through the speakers and getting in or out of the wind by adjusting the electric windscreen feels soooo good. :-) You should go and test ride one for sure , it has so much GS dna in it.

I like your vids Smokey, interesting, funny and sometimes educational. I really like these travel vids. I wish Ducati was as willing to loan you bikes as BMW...props to the dealer/manufacture that loans you all the BMWs. I know you're trying but looking forward to the day when you have the Ducati V4 MTS Pikes Peak.
@LifeofSmokey Жыл бұрын
Thanks man appreciate that! These are not dealer bikes I ride , I only ride the ones from the press fleet from the brands themself. All the brands I work with at the moment are very open towards me when it comes to lending out motorcycles. I can ask BMW , KTM , Ducati for anything I need and if available of course , I will get it for sure to make videos with. The Pikes Peak is a bit hard as there was only 1 in the press fleet , and it goes around the country from event to event , dealer to dealer and so on. But if available I'm taking it home 😁

Hey Smokey, great video and wish I lived in mainland Europe rather than being stuck in the UK! Have you still not found Dynamic Mode yet? Dynamic allows you to wheelie and frees up the engine more. It also stiffens the suspension, whereas Road gives you a plush ride. It was an epic trip and well edited video, thanks. I’m off to spend my day with the Police tomorrow from 0845 to 1600hrs on Bike Safe. I’ll record it, and eventually stick it up on my channel.
@LifeofSmokey Жыл бұрын

@@LifeofSmokey Hi Smokey, I did the Bikesafe course yesterday. It was fantastic. Unfortunately, Northamptonshire Police (my county) wouldn’t let me video it. Their reasoning was that I’d be concentrating on the video, rather than I’m-roving my riding. However, i an going yo make a video about the points they made, and the nature of the course. That may or may not be if interest to you, but I hope it is! I didn’t get back until 1700hrs yesterday, and when I sat down to watch my team play on demand, I had an even better day…..we won 8-0! If you don’t follow a PL team, follow Newcastle United! Keep up the great videos!

From a future biker: why is it you want to ride 1200 size engines? To me it seems counter intuitive to be riding such a heavy bike. Why not a 900 for example?
@LifeofSmokey10 ай бұрын
The weight is like 15-30kg more from time to time. But the bigger engine gives you a lot more torque and most of the time also a lot more horsepower. My 1290 SAR for example is a very high torque motorcycle. It can still pop wheelies at 120km/u...do I need that? No , but it's fun that it's so overpowered 😁
