One of the expolosions, during Dalek battle, in Episode 4, filmed near Waterloo Station, London. While the BBC had permit to film on the streets, and set off pyro', the blast was so big that it rattled windows, set off car alarms, and brought Emergency crews -there was fear that it was a I.R.A. bomb,...fictional Dalek War.

This was one of the first Classic Dr Who stories I watched as a kid, only having seen the New series and odd clips on ABC. I consider this the unofficial 25th Anniversary special as it's more lore-heavy than the official one (which I actually love despite recieved wisdom).

Welcome to the character of Ace, the only person so far to have beaten up a Dalek with a baseball bat. This was her first story as the main companion having appeared in the previous story. Her story arc and relationship with the 7th Doctor, or Professor, made her one of my favourite companions.

It didn't make the edit but i hope you got the 'And now on BBC 1 a new science fiction series...' line 😀 As you probably figured out theres a few callbacks to an unearthly child - such as the junk yard and Coalhill school (i might have the name slightly wrong but i'd take note of the name😮). The other thing about this story is when they did the explosion with the special weapons dalek in central london nobody thought to make the emergency services aware so the initial assumption was that it was terrorism ... apparently.

The Doctor's face in the opening title sequences dropped since the 1996 Paul McGann TV Movie then it discontinued on into NuWho I always loved the face instead of the actor name titles and I wish they dropped them and brought the face back. When it comes to Classic Who when you say "episodes" we usually refer to them as "serials" or "stories". This is also the first time ever in the history of the show we see abit of flight of the Dalek when it was coming up the stairs about to kill the Doctor as for years before this it's been made an ongoing joke before this that the Daleks couldn't go on the stairs. The scene where Ace hits the Dalek with a baseball bat is one of the most iconic moments in the show, Ace is a very 80's companion. This story came out in 1988 but the setting of the story is set in 1963 set moments just after The First Doctor and his original companions Susan, Ian and Barbara had left this a 25th anniversary story. The scene where Ace turns on the television set they were advertising a new science fiction program on the BBC that program was "Doctor Who" but they cut it there with "Doc..." to the next scene before we heard the full title this program this was a fourth wall break as the first episode of Doctor Who was broadcast in 1963 so the show exists within the show itself. Just on the bit where you said the Classic Who Doctors were more quieter than the NuWho Doctors I agree to an extent but they were just as manic as the NuWho Doctors particulary The Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) he was the most alien and manic out of any of the Doctors what annoys me about the NuWho Doctors is they can sometimes be too carried away and they act more too human for my liking than they do alien. The Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) the Doctor you just watched here is one of my least favourite as I blamed him for years for being the one who ended the show but I judged too harshly I've grown to like him abit over the years.

The historic speeches at the beginning are an homage to 23 November 1963, the date of the very first episode which was set at the same school. In episode 2 they even include the tv announcing the start of the first 1963 episode. This is also first occasion on tv that the Daleks float - they have been flying around in the comics since the 1960s. Omega appeared twice before this story. The reference to Bernard is a nod to another BBC classic science fiction series "Quaternass". The huge battle in episode 4 created a terrorist alert because of the explosions.

Iirc they were Sophie's own earrings, and she lost one during filming so she and someone from the costume department had to go to the market she got them from to find a replacement!
