An overdue update of the Epic Egress move. For those just joining the Oxtoolco shop is moving 100 miles north to a new location. In this video we have some clips from both locations. I got some strategic help from a couple of friends along with a nice donation from a longtime viewer. Special thanks to, John, Ed, Jesse, Robert, Chuck, Gary and Mark. Real friends will help you move and help hide the body.

16:30 in the video, all you're missing is a sold straight edge blocks on both sides of the door, SOLIDLY, and big clamp! Or threaded rod to go with your hammer & a block of wood . This will give you the ability to add the clamp and the hammer, so you do it gradually perfectly, good going on the move! Hope you have very little payments on it! Better yet! Hopefully it is (or gets) paid off quick. Ya! Great Property. The skates work nice.

Some of the roll up doors have both manual (chain) and power lift/lower. That might be helpful in working with the door to clear a jam. Nice during power failures too. You might want to check into that. It would be nice to have the option of partly opening or closing the door to limit sunlight streaming in or regulate ventilation during cool or hot weather. Thanks

A good gust of wind on a half-open roll door can do really bad things to it, including tearing it completely out of the track. Better to have it either up or locked down, or at least within a foot or so of full up.

Tom, I am glad to know all is going well with the move, And most importantly you are undamaged and Safe. As we work along it is tempting to side step some safety rules, With the "I've done this a hundred times" or "it will be fine, I can hold that up for a long time". I've been there and done that, and hurt myself, Pulled muscles, Pinched fingers and toes. Don't give in to Bozo waiting to make you look bad, or smash your fingers. We all want to watch your video's for years to come. You are very valuable to us and we couldn't stand to find out you were injured by a minor mistake. Luckily, we have gotten smarter as we matured, giving Bozo the finger instead, of the laugh. Take care My friend and please be safe, I would rather get hurt Myself, than You. Take Care and Stay Safe. I wired my shop with twist lock connectors. I used 4 pin plus ground. The fourth pin controls the rotary phase convertor. Ground that pint to turn on the convertor. So a machine that needs 3 phase will turn on the convertor when needed. I don't even have a way of controlling it otherwise. It is just like having real 3 phase. Turning on a load like the mill spindle and the rotary convertor simultaneously works fine. I anticipated a problem but never had one. I have added a contact block to power switches, used an unused contact pair on a 4 pole relay or added a small relay to get a contact closure to turn on the convertor. I put the convertor outside in a rubbermaid shed with my air compressor and dryer. I can just hear the convertor run without being annoyed. Same with the compressor. Operating this way prevents leaving the convertor on all night.

Also (fair warning, this is my first critical comment because you just said something that downright pissed me off): the USPS "gives away" those Priority Mail boxes "for free" with the very reasonable expectation that you will use them to send stuff via Priority Mail. When you fail to do so, you drive up their operating costs for the rest of us, ensuring that eventually or sooner they will no longer do that. So, well done. How about you NOT use your channel to tell people how to rip off the Postal Service or other federal / national service organizations. Please. :(

Hi Tom! Looks like a Porvene sheet door. If you dont like the way it turns out, they have a distributor here in Sacramento. You can replace the bottom section by drilling out the rivets and installing new. If you relief cut the bottom steel, the sheet will be way more giving, I would recommend pushing it from the outside, then weld the relief cut. If you need any help with doors, thats my thing, i would be more than willing to take a day trip. Take care.

That is brilliantly simple. I cannot believe that moving companies have not come up with a reusable folding crate designed with fork pockets. Modular moving. It makes so much sense that I am shocked it is not standard. You don't have to worry nearly as much about breakage, you pack it yourself. Pretty hard to screw things up just moving crates with a forklift. And when you're done moving, you'll have a nice supply of OSB dunnage. Perhaps the crates could be transitioned into shop storage, like build a wall of shelves by turning them on their side and adding a face frame. Trucks and dollies could be designed for a single size, making them more effective and lighter weight.
@jpsimon206
@jpsimon206 2 жыл бұрын
Even better would be if there were say four different sizes that were consistent fractions of the largest. Sort of like Legos. The idea being that when you went to reuse these as shelving or storage, they could both have the ability to nest as well as making funky shelves that still come out square. If you were to take some 1x2 wood, make an inset square on the underside, it would protect the crate from a flooded basement. If you took the same slats and made a square on the perimeter of the lid, all of these crates could lock together.

Looks like a nice place. I assume you are still in the Bay Area somewhere. The only thing that would concern me in a shop in the hills is the dust. I’ve been in many rural shops in my day and typically everything inside is covered in a thick layer of dust. Most shops I’ve been in are full of tractors or farm equipment so dust is not an issue but you have some seriously delicate precision tools that probably won’t do well in a dusty environment. What do you plan to do to fend off the dust. I would definitely seal off every inch of that shop first. Make it as air tight as possible. Then I’d have a large sprinkler system around the doors to dampen the soil.

@@The78cj Each of those horizontal sections is separate from the other. They have a tubular area top and bottom, which gives them rigidity until the tube is compromised.
